...do you have that in writing? because that might explain the exploding VRMs just as easily as the high temps. The combination of the 2 even more so.

Google "gpu caught fire" and look at all of the Radeon, ATI, and, Asus, MSI, gigabyte, Palin, galax.... Cards that have all blown components over the generations in the same exact place as everyone is experiencing. There are a pretty good amount of pictures out there.. And 3 evga pictures.

I am not trying to justify or defend evga, but this isn't uncommon for components to fail. Only a couple of VRM's have actually popped on an evga card.. It's usually a resistor or capacitor that gives out. You can see the exact same thing across all manufacturers.

Am I the only one thinking that way?

Nope, I asked my retailer if I could switch to another brand after it black screened at 1,5 months and they agreed so now I have a MSI 1080 Gaming Z, all values are better than on the EVGA and it makes way less noise and no coil whine.

Here is the requested black screen issue explanation from evga about VRM:

"Recently, there are many customers wanting to know more details about the EVGA GeForce 1080 FTW “Black Screen” issue and we believe we need to make a clear statement to clear all kinds of speculation.

The EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 FTW “Black Screen” issue was fixed as of the first week of September and this has been confirmed by all users who have received the replacement units with the issue resolved. Also, all new production has been confirmed to not have this issue after the first week of September.

This previous black screen issue was caused by On Semiconductor (VRM IC Manufacturer) VRM IC’s being out of spec, triggering the OCP (Over Current Protection) and will not cause any damage to your system. The percentage of the IC’s that were out of spec has been confirmed by On Semiconductor and is approximately 3% to 4%. Since then, EVGA and On Semiconductor have worked out the solution and RMA replacement action a couple months ago as we stated above.  At this moment, all of the EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 FTW’s have been corrected and all products in the field are working properly.

I agree with OP.. I also don't believe that the proposed solution is adequate and yes I am somewhat of an expert.
Only real solution I see is a redesigned ACX 3 or water block my card...

This reminds me of bull**** called exploding Samsung Note 7 phone. I have one and have no plans in returning it. My older Note 5 runs hotter.

+1 Completely new card with redesigned ACX 3 and more solid VRAMs or total refund.
I don't want thermal pads, I do not want to update the bios to get a louder card.
I can't refund my card in reseller cause I bought the card a 1,5 month ago...

My card has fired up, one of the VRMs has been burned! I'm trying to do RMA online a FEW TIMES, every time it says sessions expired. Then I decided to copy and paste this time, and I received the error page, this really making me soooo frustrated, I really don't wanna deal with this trouble that I am having right now! ^&*%$£ paying almost £700 for this

a ton of people (practically everyone) are thinking that the black screen + fan at full speed issue is due to VRAM overheating / hot VRM heating up the VRAM / VRAM Thermal Pads not touching etc. ... and throw it all together in one pot.
This clears up a lot of confusion IMHO.
So thanks for sharing.

3 year warranty is fully transferable to future purchaser. The 3 year warranty (guest rma) for secondary owner start from the day the card shipped from EVGA.

I'm really glad to hear this
Im a second owner of a 1080 ftw (I receive tomorrow) and I was wondering.
But what happen in my case which the 1st owner already has registered this card ?
Can we "transfer" the registration?
