This is Jayztwocents video on the 1070/1080 issues. I have a lot of respect for his vids and feel this is the best video to date on this matter. Kudos to EVGA's CEO to say "We messed up"

EDIT: I for one really respect how EVGA is now handling this situation. A lesser company could play it down or shirk away from a similar issue with poor moral or legal responsibilities.
I would also like to add that problems can and will happen from time to time with high end components & EVGA has admitted dropping the ball on this. Its how a company handles itself determines my respect and whether to purchase from them again. I for one will stand by EVGA for how they look after their customers and no I'm definitely not a fanboy.

Well, Jay is the man, after all... He always has great vids...

Looks like I will see about getting my thermal pads and applying this fix myself.

To note: I'm happy with my current temps on my SLI 1070 SC's, but, if they can improve, I'm all the more willing to enhance my already great experience with these cards.

Watch his new video posted a couple of hours ago. He actually says exactly what causes that, lol. I won't link it, because he is fairly angry and drops a lot of vulgar language.

15 minutes of him pouting because people criticize him?

I wish I could sit home and shill products on youtube for a living. I guess youtube is going to need safe spaces now.

He's right though. Youtube is a cesspit in the comments section.
TotalBiscuit just said screw it and closed the comment section.

Strange isn't it?

They redirected all of the previous posts over to the update post for the thermal mod and bios update.  I assume they were trying to reduce the speculation in the other threads, and push everyone to where they can provide updates without having 100 people ignoring the updates that are posted.  Since EVGA has that thread as a sticky and they are updating it, it will catch the proper attention before people run to the threads that were full of mostly speculation without any hard facts.

Looking at vids of the founders edition 1070 card, the VRMS poke through a window in the midplate on that too (i.e. they are not heatsinked on founders card either.)

The VRMs are covered by the plate. They're the little black rectangles that are next to the grey cubes. The grey cubes that stick through are the chokes. They help filter and stabilise the current. They're the coils that make the "coil whine" that so many people whinge about.
