just want to clarify when you say test without pads you are referring to the thermal mod pads not the stock pads that are already supplied correct?
I feel that benchmarks at stocks speed are still applicable and I will still run them only because some people run those benchmarks just to get a gauge of their PC's performance regardless of overclock

For me I'm, indeed, talking about a 1070 stock card with the vbios...
Dont touch anything to the card in itself, I think we all agree on this :)

Cant wait for the results, I'm sure it will be good... in fact I think the only litte issue is for those who want to keep the original fan curve...

sorry don't mean to double post....the original fan curve could still be recreated in precision with a custom fan profile. but I'll start with the vbios update....because if it doesn't pass with that.... then one could make the assumption... that stok wouldn't either.

I have been buying EVGA long enough to remember their long-term solid lifetime warranty. And I am ok with them shortening it because as you say....all companies have had to scale back their warranties in this economy.
But EVGA should really consider upping their warranty because of this issue again....at least temporarily. To display and ensure confidence that they are still the company that the gamer community can rely on and trust.

At very least the warranty should be extended on these cards but I think it goes well beyond that. Reddit is already full of memes regarding this issue. The 970 meme still exists. The Note 7 memes. People will remember this. And to be honest, if I had to do this all over again there is nothing to make me consider the EVGA product, aside from wanting to support a company based in the USA, over the $10 cheaper Gigabyte G1 that has an actual cold plate for thermal pads contacting the relevant components instead of this hodge podge that just makes contact with the fins of the cooler. Why would I do that when I know I will at very least have to answer questions about this thing when I resell it? My loyalty or RMA convenience concerns only extend so far. I am going to choose the better engineered product every single time. I am going to choose the best warranty the majority of the time.

I think they need to need to stop the bleeding in a more significant way. No marketing wank on a box or to a reviewer about how they now triple check the design and manufacturing process, will dead those memes right now. And this thread should be getting more traction.

1) A fully transferable 5 year warranty - (for confidence and resale value)

And/Or

2) Extension of the Step-up program to all AC3 card owners - (to step-up to next years equivalent card)

Yes the net has overblown things, and yes EVGA is on damage limitation and is minimising the issue, the truth, if there can be any, is found elsewhere.

All this leaves enough doubt and mistrust in my mind to sway me elsewhere when considering another purchase - Unless one or both of those options above are enabled by EVGA.

If I plan on getting a hybrid kit for my 1070 FTW, does it make sense getting a replacement or updating the bios? Atm my temps never exceed 60C (no overclocking) but I do plan to overclock once I install the hybrid kit.

Last time I bought an EVGA was a 8800GTX came with a 10 year warranty.
That card died under warranty - the replacement also did....hrm
Anyhoo, now we are down to 3? and with overheated components, shame EVGA has not yet decided on assuaging concerns.
