Yet the Founder Edition reference designs are having no such issues what so ever. I'm pretty happy I went with the card I did, avoiding all these thermal, fan, and memory issues. Geez, I don't know how so many things could of been done wrong on these aftermarket version cards.
I would of sent my card back already if I purchased a SC/FTW card, and trust me, I almost went with the FTW version because of their history of monster/stable OC's. I have owned several SC/FTW version cards in my day, no problems except for the fans on the ACX version cards use to make way too much noise at high rpm(770 SC ACX SLI). From now on I stick to reference designs/radial cooling fans.

Founders Editions have been known to run quite hot (80C +) and will throttle speeds to cool down. Each card can have there own issues and its regardless of type/manufacturer as it can happen to anything. For all we know the next round of founder editions could run into similar issues and FTW could have no issues. For me its more about how issues are handled and EVGA has really stepped up and stood by their product.

+1 and I think it will make a very very good lesson for EVGA so I will buy EVGA again...

I'm still thinking that others brands will not do anything in that case because the products works well in normal conditions...

I usually don't get involved in these types of requests/posts.... And while I am ok (to a point) with how evga is handling the issue up till now... i must admit... if EVGA offered an extended warranty on the sc/ftw cards for free.... it would put my mind at ease for future purchases too.

I recently built a pc almost made entirely of EVGA components (motherboard, video card, powersupply) But as it stands now .. i probably won't use them in the future. I am sure 1 upset enthusiast isn't enough to make evga offer a warranty like this... or even take notice. But just think about how many might be thinking the same way I am and just not voicing their opinion.

I guess I'll wait to make my final decision after I see how this issue  plays out.

final thought... I have access to a thermal chamber, thermal couples, and thermal cameras. Once I receive EVGAs thermal mod fix  I will test it at 30c and report back with my findings. Maybe if their claims are true that these components are in spec... we all don't have to worry so much. But I'll have to wait for the pads to arrive just to be fair. Would anyone be interested in this? completely unbiased report that way for sure!

Can you make some tests WITHOUT pads and ingame only ? I think nobody with pads will be worry about something...
But for those who wont put the pads, some tests from you would be a great idea !!!

BF1, GTA V for example... dont care about furmark just want to see VRM temperatures ingame with different curve fan...

I just want proofs that there is no problem at all if I use a good fan curve ;)

It has been mentioned on this forum by EVGA that pads are optional and that there is no issue once the BIOS has been updated. The more aggressive fan curve help cool the VRMS more than the old BIOS. I also think there is a Jay2Cents video that explains this.

I already do know that but proofs are the best way to argue against someone who say "this is the end of the world, all evga are gonna explode..."

That would be no issue... I could do that. Because as it stands right now... my GTX 1070 FTW card only has the fan curve BIOS update installed. No other mods have been done to it.
Obviously the testing would not give information on the 1080 cards (Because I don't have access to the FTW edition) However, if the test fails on the 1070 FTW, one could assume the test would fail on the 1080's too.
I should also add, I won't be able to run this test until next week since I don't carry my PC with me every where I go and don't have it with me at the moment. But I do want to stress...I hope the results are positive and the whole point of me doing this test is for peace of mind.

I don't have BF1 right now, but I could run the following...
Metro 2033 and 2034
GTA V
BF4
Unigine Valley or Heaven
Batman City / Origins
3Dmark

These should give us real world results. Agreed?

Well at the very least EVGA could lift that 90 day window so people could buy that extended warranty if they missed out and feel uneasy with the entire deal.
(i'm honestly not 100% sure that heat is the reason, if there was just a bad batch of VRMs or other components that we don't know about then this thermal pad thing might be a complete placebo.)

Just for perspective, in Germany (where i am), Zotac has a 5 year warranty for FREE (3 years in the US), and Gigabyte has 4 year warranty on all GTX 10xx Series cards, if i want 5 year warranty from EVGA i have to pay 25€ extra? and i can't transfer the extended warranty if i sell the card in that time?
...does not really sound that competitive of an offer, i was honestly surprised to find out that it did cost money at all, i thought i would just have to register my card within 90 days and the 5 year warranty would be free, well NOPE, somehow none of the reviews i've seen talked about that.

And the "Step Up Program" is also limited to 90 days (and even more, limited to specific cards? not even including my 1080 FTW !?), which means that i can't step up to a 1080ti when that is released... because those aren't released within 90 days, i hear January ... not that i was planning too, would have been a nice option though.
And not to a Classified or the watercooled one either... because mine isn't on the list.
...so NONE of that stuff even applies to me.

To put the icing on the cake, i bought my 1080 FTW too early and did not get into that Gears of War 4 promotion, did buy the game myself.

...and THEN this nightmare with the Thermal Pads (why isn't there a heatpipe on all the stuff that needs cooling anyway? others have a heatpipe on their VRMs... the hell? you can be sure next time i'll take a closer look to the underside of the Heatsink of the next gen cards before i buy another GPU)
...still waiting for those Thermal Pads btw. it's been 2 Weeks now and counting.
