My understanding is that the reference board design with the black edition doesn't have any issues.  You're not likely to get a backplate as that wasn't EVGA's offer.  Also, you'd be better served contacting EVGA directly for answers.

You must be blind. The GTX 1070 SC Black Edition (08G-P4-5173) is listed as one of the models that are defective and has the IDENTICAL PCB board and ACX 3.0 cooler design as all the other 1070 units that are having issues. I would recommend you do some research before posting here again.

The fact that EVGA didn't originally include a backplate on the Black Edition units is irrelevant now as it is REQUIRED for the thermal pad fix.

Laughable....literally.  I've been posting here since 2006 and know my stuff pretty well.  The article was recently posted so now you have your facts.  If you want pads, you can get them, but don't complain about something thats a non issue.  Update Vbios and call it good!

As logic and facts fail to sway your personal opinion, may I suggest a cheap IR gun so you can see for yourself -

So you believe that the VRMs on a 4-5 phase power delivery system will NOT run hotter than on a 10 phase system....come on now...lets not go there.

Do you understand that all the BOIS "hack" does to keep the VRMs just BARELY at below MAX operating temps is increase the fan speed which also increases the fan noise TWO fold?? and forget overclocking with the BIOS hack...

I run a AIO X41 cooler with a Kraken G10 bracket with a dinky little fan blowing on the VRMs. EDIT - The VRMs  do NOT have any thermal pads or heatsinks - NONE. BARE!

40C on the top of those VRMs. 60C on the back. Full load looping Valley at 2202/11,114MHz, max power limit and 100% voltage. Measured with an IR gun.

Yeah, I'd say that's a bit cooler than what they were seeing with the FTW models - belief has NOTHING to do with this because I verified it myself with an IR gun.

Edit - you could change your belief by testing your card with an IR gun too. Or, you can continue to believe that EVGA owes you something (backplate) that you didn't pay for. If it's the latter then I'm done with you.

So you had to rig an entire fan just for the VRMs???  Nobody wants to rig an additional fan just to cool the VRMs, all we want is this issue fixed....and it IS fixed by doing the thermal pad fix which requires.....a backplate... The entire point of this thread and as stated multiple time before, the BIOS hack is NOT a fix since it increases noise two fold and still does not cool them to an acceptable level, and thats without overclocking.

You should be good then - just keep an eye open for that soon to be released updated VBIOS with the default fan speed improvements.
