installed new vBIOS and thermal pads that EVGA provided. it was very quick. longest time was to remove the LED power pins (fat fingers :D). my idle temp was 42C w/ 0 RPM before. now its 34C with 30% fan speed when idled. I've also checked to see if VRAMs gaps are there, but no. overall, it was a simple task.. it takes shorter times to do it yourself then making a request for RMA, literally. but EVGA is offering a lot of choices for you whatever is convenient for you. yeah, we shouldn't really have to do any of these, but what can we really do..

I think I'll set my fan control to aggressive for now see it plays.

Well, he didn't say "I did run this exe as admin" so... Anyway... I've had the same issue with my card and Windows 10, I mean, even with the correct bios so I think my advice can be usefull not only to him but to the others too.

To be more precise my gpu is not overclocked and i have a huge case ( phantek enthoo primo ,very well ventilated) , these are the specs on evga Precision x;
gpu clock  1721
mem clock 4006
voltage ;850

I'm just a noob with games and gpu, so excuse my ignorance.

I understand and that's ok, no need to apologize, what i'm trying to point is the problem is not the GPU chip temperature (the reading you have), which are well contained and have fail-safe anyway, the problems are the VRMs and VRAM temps (problematic one), which are out of reach for a casual user.

Putted simply, It run ok, it smell ok, but it's not ok, and both VRMs and VRAM will fail in a short period of time if not addressed (EVGA design/hardware issues).

Oh well...tried three times to update bios...first time, the Command prompt just closed immediately.  Then made sure all programs were closed and ran in Administrator mode...command prompt opened...recognized my card and then closed.  Never given an option to type Y.  Then tried in safe mode...nada.  Guess I will keep using Afterburner and keep my aggressive fan profile.

How long does it take for the firmware to update?  I ran the update.exe file, typed "y".  Some text quickly displayed on the screen, and then the DOS prompt window closed itself - all within a sec.  Does that mean the flash was successful?

I was like you, it finished so fast and closed I was like hmm is it done? I saw shortly before it closed "update successful" or something similar for about a second however. I waited maybe a minute after the window closed just to be sure and restarted. All is fine for me and Nvidia control panel shows updated VBIOS in system information after restart.

What 's your advice to avoid unpleasent surprises, i already made a request for thermal pad.

Yup, it's that easy.  Just use GPU-Z to confirm the BIOS number to make sure.  That's also exactly why this drama is ridiculous - it's literally a 30 second process including download time (at least that's as long as took for me to update the firmware for Micron memory).

Good job. Rather than whining and complaining you took the initiative and fixed the problem with the help of Evga. I wish everyone would be like you, rather than dragging everyone else down by posting negative garbage in every other post to get their deranged point across. The mods should merge all the complaints into a new thread. That way the front page doesn't look like all hell just broke loose. A lot of people come here for help and guidance. If I were a new user I wouldn't come back. It's a nightmare. I feel bad for everyone that has had genuine issues. But for everyone else that sees a post on reddit then decides to bash board partners not so much. I feel sorry for these people, seeking attention by spreading panic and mostly unproven rumors. Anyway I'm done ranting.

I totally agree, bios update is fine but for such a premium card i should not have to take it appart and do what they ask us to do even if they claim its optional.
All the videos i seen shows that the thermal pads make a huge difference keeping the heat down and without the fan going extremly loud. The whole point when i selected this card was the quiet fans. Now with this bios it can go up to 2200rpm which is crazy. Normally i goes to 1600RPM and with the pads it will be around 86 degree which is totally fine.
Hopefully my RMA will also be approved so i can swap this for a new card with the thermal pads. Otherwise its going back to the shop.

That video is from preliminary fix. Final is around 2000 RPM during Furmark, and a bit lower during gaming.
