Be aware, this is a video for the audio... confusing, right?  My camera refused to focus properly, so the video is blurry everywhere but the TV.  So, I made sure to say everything I saw in front of me. The video is 18 minutes long. The last 10 minutes is with the updated bios, starting at 100% fan speed and going down to 0%

Not sure if you are serious with your test...db meter on the phone really?
Here a more accurate and professional version: which show 47db and yes it's loud for such a marginal temp improvement VRM/VRAM wise (pads fairy dust installed! Also November is not known as the hottest month...).

I have a 1080 FTW card I got on preorder with Bios 86.04.17.01.80 installed.

I tried to patch my card with the 86.04.3b.00.84 Bios that is linked for my card and it said it was done.  I tried to restart my PC and it just Hung there So after awhile I had to hard reset my PC.

Then It wouldn't load back into windows with my graphics card,  I got a totally black screen.  I had to open my PC and i switched the Bios switch from Master to Slave and then rebooted again.  This allowed me to get back into windows with the 86.04.17.01.80 bios drivers on my slave setting.

Then I shut down the PC and loaded up in the master setting again and it did load into windows but with the old 86.04.17.01.80 Bios.   The New Bios did not install.

Should I try to apply the Bios Again?

I dont know why it didnt work the first time, I restarted my PC and shut off all programs before trying to run the Bios patch but it didnt work the first time.

Flashed my GTX 1080 FTW ACX 3.0 just fine

BIOS version is now 86.04.3b.00.84

I had been on a custom curve that has kept my gpu fairly cool; but decided to updated anyways.
I read that this update is on the card's internal curve, I went and unckecked 'auto' on Precision X to turn off my custom curve, hit apply, ran Unigine real quick to see how the RPMs look under load and the fans never turned on. Just kept going up and up until the game bench crashed at aroun 68 degrees celcius.

Am I missing something here?

Edit: weird interface, but I guess i need to keep the 'auto' fan icon checked off on the Precision X console, but under the 'curve' submenu, I de-select 'enable autmatic fan control' to disable the custom fan curves *quiet/agressive/custom*

A bit weird but I  got my fans to work.  On Unigine Heaven, topped off at 67 degrees fan at 48-49%  around 1,500 rpm.  My custom curve was definitely cooling it a lot better so I might go back to it.
The stable clock was just above 2,001 mhz when on my custom I could get it stable closer to 2,024 mhz and slightly cooler.  Will do more tests.

Just tested out the new BIOS/Fan curve on my ACX Black Edition. It's louder than the old, near-silent fan curve but still a LOT quieter than the 780 (blower cooler) I just upgraded from.  Max GPU temp with Firestrike and a few levels of Crysis 3 was 67. (Down from low 80's) Max fan speed was 41% and 1500 RPM's

the Slave bios in 1080FTW is  86.04.17.01.80 ( TDP 130% , and fan stock 20% + "agressive curve" i think)
Master bios its 86.04.17.00.80  ( TDP 120% and fan 0% stock), and the Vbios update is for the master

It looks as if you are trying to update the main bios to the slave bios. Or even i am getting confused now with the numbers.
Anyway, main on main should just work, try again, maybe in windows safe mode. (yes even Windows 10 has one)
