Being a ham-handed fella, I have asked my local IT online forum members whether anyone is willing to assist in helping to apply the said cooling pads (if I can get my hands on, fingers crossed) and none of them are willing as to avoid any negative repercussion stemming from the DIY MOD. The subsequent alternative was to send over to EVGA’s Technical offices in Taiwan for the RMA exchange and postage alone will cost me approx. RM 200

Doing this is not going to effect your warranty. Evga does not void warranties for removing coolers. They never have and they probably never will void a warranty because of removing the cooler.

Replacing everything is extremely easy. It take less than an hour, and gamer nexus website just posted a video with step by step instruction on what do to.

I have a 1070 SC black with the fancy cooler and no back plate.
Are there any comparisons of temps with and without backplates? I think in the absense of thermal pads (stock) the backplate could make temps higher, but all the cards I have seen numbers for have backplates.

The fame nexus link in post two shows a card with no backplate as their very first comparison. The one that says "1440 fan speed, no thermal pad mod"

Later, it shows a card with a backplate, which looks completely different.

This is Jayztwocents video on the 1070/1080 issues. I have a lot of respect for his vids and feel this is the best video to date on this matter. Kudos to EVGA's CEO to say "We messed up"

Reading the article, I think the first pics are just close-ups . It says they are FTW cards. I thought all FTW cards had back plates?

I have Dual GTX 1080 SC Cards so I have double the worry now even though I have direct connected sensors to the VRMs to monitor them on my cards and anything approaching 80+ Degrees I activate the side panel 200mm FAN on my chassis.

The irritation is that I applied for the thermal pads the day they announced and released the link, and it is still pending approval. It is going into our summer here in South Africa and the outside air temps are breaking close to 40 Degrees in Johannesburg so either EVGA has to make this happen faster or I will have to just buy my own thermal pads and import them.

Like the "Free" powerlinks I am sure they are going to expect us to pay shipping for their obvious misstep....
