The 2 8-pin PCIe power adapter plugs were not plugged in.

However, the card should not have "smoked"...there was obviously an issue with the card.

You are Totally Wrong Here it was not the VRM.
So the Tile of your Thread "EVGA CARD VRM Catching fire" is really a Lie.
I am only saying this because you are about the 5th member to say this on the Forum.
Looking at this did you not think that it was the Power going to the Motherboard that caused this to happen in the first place.
No different then if that user put his card in a toaster.
Drop a small screw between the PCB and the Back Plate and see what happens to your card.
Anyhow I only wanted say everything in this post is all hearsay and nothing more anyway.

Exactly. I answered your question. It's obvious you are too simple to understand simple reasoning. Turn it off when not home, then no need to worry about fires, etc. I'm still paying on the house, not too keen about fires while I'm at work, from my 1070 or any other reason.

Beeing an educated electritian I know that electrical fires starts when its faulty and not just by itself.
WCCFTech clearly says this have been reported by several ppl. And they discovered no thermal pads on the VRM. That is a faulty reason to ask question about if its solved on the cards or not. Yes I could still turn it off when I go away from home but dont see why I should because a card "might" catch fire when im at home aswell. I rather prevent it from catching fire either way, thats how a normal person reason.

Posts like these are click bait. Only fueling mass hysteria, panic, and unproven rumors. A few people have had issues, I get it. But we need a solution to said problems, not adding more fuel to the fire.

See DeathAngel74 get my point, thank you. This Thread is only Pouring Gas on a Fire, No Pun Intended.

Having just come to this forum myself a couple of days ago after my GPU burned out.  Just be aware, 98 percent of the people here have no business answering anything.  As you can see by every answer that was given to you.  My advice is to head to reddit or some other forum that isn't full of fanboys/girls either just being sarcastic or handing out mis information.  Good luck to you.

I'm not trying be an ass or disrespectful. But the whole front page is full of posts like these. For people that have legitimate issues I understand. But just for smiles and giggles? Grow up.. RMA if that worried about it.
