It will be my second pc build, but I don't have personally any experience on it. Some of my friends have this card and they really like it so I give it a chance.

There are no issues. You don't need to do anything.

Everytime I read this lately, this is all I can think of:

I think I might join you. I've been on the fence for the last 24 hours between going through the hassle of returning my 1070 ftw, and reordering once the thermal pads are installed, or just returning and getting a different manufacturer. EVGA customer support is great, but I can't justify keeping my card which I paid $450 for, and being shipped prior to 8/30. It comes with a hefty price...and a big risk Im not willing to take.

I think it's a solid choice, get the Asus version! In the other hand, I really like EVGA for its costumer support and previous graphics cards, but with the 10 series I some kind of lost my faith in them. Unfortunately.

I totally get you. I can't return mine because it's been about a month since I bought it, but even then I don't know if I would.
Fact of the matter is you can count on your fingers how many 1070 FTWs failed. These are drops in the ocean. It's not like we're experiencing some kind of S7 Note disaster.
Mine has been working fine ever since I bought it.

If you really think about it, you have to agree with EVGA when they say any card from any vendor can fail. It just happens we're aware about this VRM heat thing. And there's no proof both things are correlated. Because if they were, the majority of the cards would be failing right now.

EVGA said there were faulty VRMs on the 1080 FTW, and that issue that affected 3-4% was corrected.
Maybe those 1070 FTWs that allegedly blew up were just faulty and nothing else.

That's exactly why I've been on the fence. I have been thinking "well, If I adjust my fan speed, then I might be okay" or similar to what you said "it probably won't happen to me since the number reported have been so few." I've been going back and forth with this, but it will ALWAYS be I the back of my head if I keep it. I've also been thinking "heck, even if I go with another brand, there will still be some sort of issue." Haha right now I feel almost a lose lose, but I'm trying to think of the path of least resistance - what will be a better choice right now, and a choice that will not make me have anxiety about possibly overheating and damaging other components, even if it's not a large % of cards. Just knowing mine was shipped on 8/03/16 to my retailer makes me uneasy. I guess in the end, it's all psychological. Funny how that works...

One more thing. Let me ask you. If you were in my situation, would you return to retailer, and then wait for thr new batch of cards pre-installed with thermal pads? I'm debating this or just returning and getting a new brand. I really really want to like this model. Mind you, I am not over clocking the gpu.

If you still like it, you should return it to EVGA and claim a thermal padded version, or if you want a fresh start reclaim the price, return the card and buy it from another vendor.

I understand it perfectly where you're coming from. And honestly, I share your uneasiness.
Even though everything points to the cards working fine even with the 0db preset, you automatically feel you should make a custom preset or select the aggressive preset just to keep them cooler, after seeing those tests.
Even though they work fine in theory it just feels like you have to tweak whatever to have peace of mind.

If you have the option to return it, I would if I were you.
Then I'd probably buy EVGA again just because I know the support is good. I've had ASUS cards and their support was beyond bad.
Gigabyte is good quality but their support isn't so good, too.
Can't tell you anything about MSI's support, but at least from a MOBO point of a view they build great products. And their cards seem to be on par.
Gainward and Palit make pretty good cards too, but no idea how their support is.
So yeah, I guess it's just a matter of preference. If you don't want to buy EVGA again just go with the one who has a better cooling solution. That's what I would do.

But hey, at the end of the day, fact of the matter is our cards are working fine, and even some people who have overclocked them have them running without hiccups.
I'll install the pads just for peace of mind, because from what I've seen and from my usage I'll probably never have any issues with my card, knock on wood.

I'm think I've made up my kind. I'll use this card for another week or two, then return to my retailer. I'll then order directly through EVGA. I wonder if there is any way to request a card with a pre-installed thermal pad right now. Or if you just have to wait for 2 weeks and hope it's installed.
