Not to mince words, but a public statement a companies employees can greatly be regarded as true statements. Especially when they identify themselves as such. Lying would put the company in serious jeopardy regarding lawsuits and reputation loss. This is the ma I need reason it takes so long for them to comment about these issues in the first place. They must ensure that they have their facts straight. Many so called news sites don't have such restrictions. They pay their writers very little, if they even have actual staff writers, and usually only care about views for ads. Reputable sites get caught up in this too, which is why certain sites need to be taken with a large bag of salt.
I personally ran my 1080FTW on kboost at 2ghz for most a week to test out its folding skills. My backplate measured close to 60C the entire time and airflow through the cooler is limited by the 970 below it in the case . If this was real problem in design, my card would have been hosed. Plenty of folders in the forums run these cards 24/7 as well for folding. We would have expected seen real reports from these folks as folding is more intensive use of a gpus resources than most games.
But in the end, do what you want. Either be happy with the evga card or buy another. Real chances of failure are similar no matter what brand you buy.
