Hey... what about 1080 SC?

I have requested the thermal pads just in case, but I'd like to know if there are reports of 1080 SC cards having this problem.

Thanks.

So the 1070 SC models are unaffected, yet EVGA is still offering thermal pads to those owners. I have a 1070 SC and would like the thermal pads, but the thermalmod page says I don't own a qualifying product. What do I do to get the pads?

Welcome to the Forum
Only the FTW Models are part of the "Optional EVGA Thermal Pad Mod Request" that is in place.

Thanks for the reply.

EVGAtech> so 1070 SC owners dont have to be worried about this overheating issue ?

And can you show me that 1070/1080 from other brands had this issue too ? I make a quick search, I only find "evga, evga and evga, always evga..."

Also, I dont know what to think between the article of WCCFtech and what you are saying, you and glorious...

Is this really a "FTW owners" issue only ?

I cannot link directly to any specific pages and I do think all of our neighbor companies have excellent products as well. What you can try is search terms such as "caught fire" or "melted" along with specific brand names and you will see we are not the only company that experiences this. Also, as I mentioned, the EVGA forums and community are far more active and we have a large share of the 10 series cards in the wild. It is inevitable that the top search entries will yield results for EVGA.

I have worked with many thousands of cards over the years and I can assure you that this is not a problem that is unique to the 10 series or EVGA. To my recollection I have not had to issue a single RMA for a 10 series card that has caught fire.

My 1070 SC edition is in your hands right now under RMA.  Quit lying and trying to sugar coat this issue. You all need to do a full on recall before someones' house burns down.  Mine burned out while playing Black Ops 3, not overclocked, in a very high airflow case.  EVGA just needs to step up and take responsibility for this issue and try to earn some respect back.

Incorrect and unfortunately for whatever reason a mass email was not sent out to warn of this problem.  So my card is now in for RMA after burning up last week:

i had black screen and 100% fan speed yesterday 6 times with EVGA 1070 SC gaming Black Edition, is there something else apart from the GPU that could causing the black screen and 100% fan speed?

it happens randomly i can game for a hour without it happening.

Do you have the latest Video Bios Update installed? its suppose to fix that issue, luckily my Black Edition came with it shipped so I didn't have to apply it myself (Bought my card early last week)

I thought that the Back Plate was part of the Cooling System?
As far as i know the plate has 2 functions: stability for heavy cards and a heatsink, provided you have proper surface connection. Which is why evga offers the pads to cards with a backplate.

Quickly looking at my dismantled 1070, i can verify there are 4 small rectangular thermal pads on the back-plate
that make contact right at the back of the GPU in a square pattern. That is the only point at which the back-plate
makes contact with the PCB. Like mentioned earlier, i'd feel better if those tests where taken with the back-plate
off, as theres no direct contact there. I would hazard to guess the temps will be higher once it was removed ?
Theres like 3mm of air between the back-plate and the back of the PCB where the VRMs live.
