Are there any videos that show the installation of memory pads? All I can find are the ones for the other two.

I have yet to find any official document on the memory pad install. Even the evga installation guide doesn't cover the memory pads yet.

I really hope someone comes up with a video or the official documentation gets updated soon. This is the part of the installation I'm most uncomfortable with.

It's a shame that I feel quite apprehensive about putting the card under stress so I'm sticking to non-demanding games. Really not what you'd expect after buying a brand new GPU. I know EVGA is saying most of the mods are optional but I really don't feel comfortable with that. Not with all the evidence popping up.

I wonder how it is even possible so many cards are having this "gap". A handful? yeah, might happen. But I feel like the majority so far owns a card with several gaps.

This is so ridiculous. We need to rework the complete thermal design? I myself own a GTX 1070 FTW. First time for me with EVGA. Awaiting the pad-collection to arrive. Won't do the VBIOS update because of higher noise, just the pad mod.

According to reports, the new pad on the front VRMs is not touching the cooler. Hope they don't melt under the pad completely without air.

I really hope there will be provided a goodie inside the package for my work time. Would suggest a GoW4 key, since my card is not qualified for the promotion. Otherwise, I will go for MSI next time again.

What reports? I see nothing about this anywhere

I actually think once the memory pads are included, the card should be fine with the "gaps"  After the bios update the fan has better cooling, but with all those memory pads being 1.88" vs 1" it should fill the gap.  My measurement is based off youtube install vid that had the guy measure it.

maybe a stupid question, but why the 900 series didn't had those thermal issues (vrm and memory)?
i mean ACX 2.0+ and 3.0 share basically the same "midplate" system
and why there is no thermal contact (with pads) between that midplate and the heatsink for both (ACX 2.0+ AND 3.0)?

anyone knows of reports about the hybrid (either reference or ftw) having these issues aswell? Since their design regarding cooling is a bit different, we just can't go by the same QC issues without reports.

  • * Founders Edition, Blower type, HYBRID, and HYDRO COPPER cards do not need these updates.

That table was put up before there was any word of applying new thermal pads for the VRAM.
I mean, I can understand why you should do this anyway, since esp. heavily squeezed pads that then got overly hot might loose adhesion and thickness, thus being not ideal for heat transfer. But with these cards having more and more diverse issues you better be safe than sorry.

I may be misunderstanding your question, but doesn't the Hydro have a copper plate that makes direct contact with all the vram chips?  EDIT: Ok, I see what you're saying -- that the pads between the copper plate and chips might be similarly "too thin" as they were between chips and mid-plate on some acx3 cards.
