Hey guys. I have a couple RAM related questions. I am currently running THIS kit on my E770 X58 Classified 3. 
 
1. I have had trouble getting it to be completely stable at the stock timings and speed (2000mhz 9-10-9-27 @1.65v)
Which voltage is it that stabilizes the memory controller and what would I advise I run it at? I am thinking if I have the correct voltage I can get this RAM to be stable. The RAM is currently at 1600mhz and running fine, I would just like to be able to get the extra speed out of it.
 
2. I would also like to bump up to 24gbs of high performance RAM but legacy modules like these are hard to come by since X58 is pretty old. Can anyone point me in the right direction. I'd be very happy to find another one of these kits for a good price and run 6x4gb modules. I have heard it's pretty difficult to get these boards stable with all 6 DIMMs filled at 24gb. Would I be better off using dual channel modules and less DIMMs?

CPU VVT, can be raised, set it to +150mv. I would not go much higher than that. That is = to 1.35v
If you can not get it faster, try tightening the timings, 8-9-8-25, or 7-8-7-25  first  2T  then try 1T
You can try 3 x 8gb sticks, most 8gb sticks are dual rank. Triple channel dual rank is a good thing.

Thanks. I will set that when I get home and see what happens. The RAM is pretty stable at 2000mhz for the most part. I only have a few crashes far and in between. I'm hoping setting the CPU VVT correctly will be the final little bit to make these modules rock solid. Setting my Command Rate to 1T may help stability quite a bit and I doubt there is that much of a performance difference between the 1T and 2T

In terms of upgrading, all I can find is 1333 in 8gb modules. Looks like I may be stuck running all 6 DIMMs at 1600mhz. From what I'm reading nobody has had any luck getting 2000mhz with 6 modules. I may just stick with 12gb of fast memory until I absolutely have to upgrade. For now this old system is handling my 1080 and everything else just fine.
 
I will adjust the VVT and report back. Are there any other voltage settings relating to memory? The modules are currently at the specified 1.65v. I know the CPU OC is rock solid.

I think I found the source of instability. The VVT was set to +300. I now have the RAM running at 2000mhz 9-10-9-27 1T. POST and boots to Windows just fine. I'll try some gaming tonight and see how everything goes.

1T is faster and maybe less stable than 2T on the memory, and there is a difference. Will you see the difference in everyday usage or just benchmarks??? So if you have to get it stable go with 2T.
I have used 2 sticks of 8gb G.Skill 1866. I would think two 8gb dual rank dual channel, would be close to three sticks of single rank triple channel. X58 can't do quad, but on my x79, quad channel would be better than dual channel, dual rank memory. Not to confuse you...
At least it seems with memory intensive BOINC primegrid work units.
How that equates to gaming????
If you can't get the speed, tighten timings, including T2 down to T1*. (*maybe less stable)

It's been about an hour with no issues. I also ran Intel XTU on the RAM for about 10 minutes. I'll continue gaming until I run into an issue. If I get a crash I'll try loosening the timing to 10-11-10-28 and see if that helps with stability.

Just to clear some confusion, for the X58 platform, memory channels are determined by the IMC which is integrated with the processor.  DDR3 memory for  single, dual, and triple channel are identical memory sticks. The number of channels they run in is determined by how the slots are populated on your particular motherboard. They are frequently sold as a dual channel and triple channel set. That just means the memory sticks were tested as a pair or in a set of three.   You didn't cite your exact memory type, but I'm running 2000 mhz  Corsair at 1648 mhz at 8-8-8-24 1T.  I don't know if you have an unlocked processor or not. That makes it much easier to use different memory muliti and base clock/cpu multiplier combos. As was pointed out earlier, increasing CPU VTT can help. I wouldn't go any higher that +175 tops. Also, 2T is a looser memory timing than 1T and should increase stability.

Yes, everything has been running smooth. The VVT seems to have done it. I was giving it too much voltage at +300mv. As you can imagine CPU temps also dropped a bit which is always welcome. If you click that banner it will have more specific specs. 

Correct, I am running a 970 @4.2ghz. 200 BCLK 21 multiplier. It still doesn't look like 12gb is an issue yet. I may just put off upgrading to 24gb to stick with fast 12gb.

Good glad to hear it. I myself try to keep my CPU and VVT at or below 1.35V . For tenps and longevity.
12gb most of the time is enough. If you need more I would consider another stick of what you have for 16gb or two 8gb dual rank.
Honestly in this stage of the game, I would rather save my money for other upgrades in the future.
