I have a 1080 Classified and I know EVGA have artificially limited the fan speeds on these cards.  The fans are capable of operating at 12v -- well over 3000 RPM -- yet they max out at 2800RPM.  I understand people want quiet cards; but even at 2800RPM the temps hardly go over 60c anyway.... most people will also leave automatic fan control.. So why not give user the choice? If you choose 3000+ you will have a noisy fan.... if you want a quiet fan keep it to 75% and still have temps under 60c.

If you are enthusiast and want temps under 55c you also should have the option.... no point in artificially limiting fan speed... that is just silly, EVGA!!

For anyone asking "does this apply to the FTW, SCX, or classified.." It specifically says ACX cooler.. If the card has an ACX, this applied to that card... The SC, FTW, and the Classified all have ACX, so it applies. If it has a blower cooler, this does not apply. The Hybrid has a blower. The founders has a blower.

When Ford determines there is a defect in one of their car models they do not send the parts to the buyer and tell them to fix it themselves.
I didn't pay $1000 to make repairs. Repairs I don't have the tools or the skills for.
I want my card replaced.

Hello,

we understand your frustrations however please keep in mind that this is optional. There is no danger of running your video card in its current configuration.

Really?
My card shipped on Aug. 25th, and either freezes or black screens when I am gaming.
If there is no danger to running it in its current configuration then why is a solution to the problem being offered in the first place.
There may not be an immediate danger, but in 1 month, 3 months etc the degradation will have taken place from the overheating, if it hasn't already  in my case.
I have been bugging nVidia about this for a month complaining to them that their drivers are the issue, it appears I was wrong and owe them an apology.
I will be filing an RMA to have my card replaced.
Can I pay to upgrade to the Hybrid FTW?

Your solution is an RMA.  Clearly.  I don't know why you are arguing with EVGA about this.  Like you said, you should send it in to EVGA and have them repair or replace it.  I am sure that EVGA agrees.

The option EVGA is offering is for computer enthusiasts who have concerns and wish to try to improve their otherwise correctly working video card.

woooow so even the Classified, which was known to have the best PCB-Layout along high-end cards is a Candidat for the "Pad-Programm"...now thats really messed up. THe Layout has always been completly different, superior, with more phases, a thicker PCB with more Layers and and and....i never thought they were anything but perfect like they are.

Is the 1070 SC Black Edition affected by this ?.
I will receive mine later this week ?

There is no backplate on it so I guess I don't need thermal pads either ?

I don't think the classified would  benefit from the pads as they would block air flow more than anything as the vrm`s are lower that the phase`s and the backplate has a cut out for the air flow to blow on to them. I think the 1080 layout has only the phases showing. That's if the cut out infront of the phases are for the vrm`s .

I am sorry Wils, but your terminology is all wrong.  As such, your statement is also wrong.  The Classified "VRM" (Mostfets) are not visible in your picture because they are under the cooling plate; just like the other versions of the 1080.  The Classified could also benefit from thermal pads, theoretically.

Hey there, new member here. Proud owner of 2 GTX 1080 FTW as well. I bought them - funnily - exactly on 31th of August.

I just found out about this unfortunate issue. Very nice of you to provide solution. I would be interested in getting these additional thermal pads, just to be on the safe side. How and where do i "sign" for them? I live in Slovakia and i bought the cards from local reseller (). Should i contact them or should i deal directly with you (Evga?) I dont think you have any official representation in my country and never dealt with similar problem, so any advice how to approach this situation would be appreciated.

Many thanks in advance.

So do we just submit a support ticket today or will there be a dedicated page to request these like the powerlink?
