Can anyone confirm the 1070 FTW has the same problems as the 1080 FTW?
on reddit a evga staff member said the 1070 ftw is not effected because he says its physically different.
is this true or not ?

or are the pcb and cooler the same on the 1070 ?

There will not be a shipping charge.

Hey there, new member here. Proud owner of 2 GTX 1080 FTW as well. I bought them - funnily - exactly on 31th of August.

I just found out about this unfortunate issue. Very nice of you to provide solution. I would be interested in getting these additional thermal pads, just to be on the safe side. How and where do i "sign" for them? I live in Slovakia and i bought the cards from local reseller (). Should i contact them or should i deal directly with you (Evga?) I dont think you have any official representation in my country and never dealt with similar problem, so any advice how to approach this situation would be appreciated.

Many thanks in advance.

I hope we get an official answer about the step by step manual(with pictures) for install the thermal pads.
Do we get thermal paste for the gpu, too ?

An official answer whats with the 1080 Classified will be also fine :)
At the moment my information ist the classified does not need pads for under the Baseplate but i needs pads for under the Backplate ?

When Ford determines there is a defect in one of their car models they do not send the parts to the buyer and tell them to fix it themselves.
I didn't pay $1000 to make repairs. Repairs I don't have the tools or the skills for.
I want my card replaced.

Hello,

we understand your frustrations however please keep in mind that this is optional. There is no danger of running your video card in its current configuration.

Really?
My card shipped on Aug. 25th, and either freezes or black screens when I am gaming.
If there is no danger to running it in its current configuration then why is a solution to the problem being offered in the first place.
There may not be an immediate danger, but in 1 month, 3 months etc the degradation will have taken place from the overheating, if it hasn't already  in my case.
I have been bugging nVidia about this for a month complaining to them that their drivers are the issue, it appears I was wrong and owe them an apology.
I will be filing an RMA to have my card replaced.
Can I pay to upgrade to the Hybrid FTW?

Quick Question. First thank you EVGA for offering this solution and doing the best that can be done. As always, excellent Cust. Serv.

Silly (maybe) Question. On Oct 24th I want to order these thermal pads as soon as possible. My card and details are registered with EVGA.
HOW do we request them. Will there be a special form, or something. Or do we need to go through the normal channels.
Personally, as I guess there will be a lot of requests for this, I think it would be a good idea to have a sticky, an announcement, something clear on this
site so that it can be dealt with quickly.

That's it, but I must say, even with this heat issue, EVGAs response to it has been excellent. Roll on the 24th OCT!!

I would assume there will be some documentation, but actually most on this forum will already know how to do it. Shouldn't be difficult.

I should mention, I know I have this issue (no black screens yet.) Because the backplate is by far the hottest I have ever known any GPU to be.
The part in question is too hot for me to touch after running Firestrike without any overclock. My best guess is that without the thermal pad fix
my card (GTX 1080 FTU) will continue to function normally for "sometime," but this heat will surely overtime cause premature failure.
That is why I am so eager to put these thermal pads on, and hope to order, request whatever will be a simple process. So far EVGA have handled this very well IMHO.

I ordered my 1080 FTW on the 30th of August in Germany.
Is there any way to know for sure if my card is affected by this?

...no black screens or anything suspicious so far.

personally i'd feel better with that increased warranty time, just in case.
but i don't really want to throw 50€ at it either, the card was expensive enough already.

If the problem doesn't manifest itself in the first three years I seriously doubt your card is affected.

That sounds reasonable. But it's also true (I think) that those who already experienced smoke, fire etc, were the first, and experienced faster failure than most

This overheating is likely to result in a slow degradation of those components affected. It may not cause any
problems for a week, a month, or a year. But, VRAM taken above max temp by a little time and again will eventually cause failure. If it's much higher it will result in fast failure.
Some people may not be affected. I guess that's just the nature of hardware. It can only handle so much stress above and beyond what it's designed for.

EVGA have acknowleged the issue, and last I read they will sent thermal pads, free, post free too, to those who apply.
The issue is very real, the timeline will vary a lot!

Kudos to EVGA for acknowledgment and offering a solution. I reckon other companies wouldn't handle it this way. Good job EVGA customer service!
