Will I have to take apart my card to install these? I would rather not - my card shipped 8/10 and is a 1070 ftw so it is definitely effected by this hardware design failure - can I send this in for a replacement card? Am I eligible for an advance RMA so Ican still play the skyrim release next Friday?

The only question I can answer at this time is that any user ordering just the thermal tape will have to take the card apart to install the tape. This will also require a small amount of thermal paste so that they core can be retimmed as well.

Just to be ready for the mod, what kinda screwdrivers do we need?

Will the mod be available for 1070 SC owners as well? Since the PCB is the same? Time to order some GC Extreme. Sorry for late questions, I was at the hospital all day while this was unfolding.

“The test used in the referenced review from Toms Hardware (Germany) is running under Furmark, an extreme usage case, as most overclockers know. We believe this is a good approach to have some idea about the graphics card limit, and the thermal performance under the worst case scenario. EVGA has performed a similar qualification test during the design process, at a higher ambient temperature (30C in chamber) with a thermal coupler probe directly contacting the key components and after the Toms Hardware (Germany) review, we have retested this again. The results in both tests show the temperature of PWM and memory is within the spec tolerance under the same stress test, and is working as originally designed with no issues.

With this being said, EVGA understands that lower temperatures are preferred by reviewers and customers.

During our recent testing, we have applied additional thermal pads between the backplate and the PCB and between the baseplate and the heatsink fins, with the results shown below. We will offer these optional thermal pads free of charge to EVGA owners who want to have a lower temperature. These thermal pads will be ready soon; and customers can request them on Monday, October 24th, 2016.  Also, we will work with Toms Hardware to do a retest.”

Thanks,
EVGA

When Ford determines there is a defect in one of their car models they do not send the parts to the buyer and tell them to fix it themselves.
I didn't pay $1000 to make repairs. Repairs I don't have the tools or the skills for.
I want my card replaced.

Yup, just wanted to make sure there arent any "surprises" like some non standard torx screws anywhere. Had one annoying experience with apple hardware and their non standard pentalobe screws, thats why haha

Torx, lol. I'd get a cheap set just in case. I will, lol.

Hello,

we understand your frustrations however please keep in mind that this is optional. There is no danger of running your video card in its current configuration.

Matt,
will the mod be available for us regular 1070 SC users too that want to be precautious?
Thanks.

I happened to see a post on reddit where they were saying it would be for the 1070 FTWs also. The SCs use the reference PCB so they shouldn't be affected.

EVGA_LeeIf you see my response to kni9ht (long after you posted, I know), I mention that this will be incorporated into other models.

To be clear, we are offering the thermal pads to anyone with a GTX 1080 or GTX 1070 with an ACX cooler and a backplate
