The chance is next to zero that a new X99 will be released prior to the next iteration of CPUs.

No, current rumors point to a Socket 2066 and Intel chipset X299 for Skylake X in the 2nd half of 2017

Dont think i'll wait around.  Always been if i have the money and time to do something now, do it now...otherwise there's always a new release of something a few quarters down the line...would be waiting forever if i'm always waiting ^_^.   Now i'm literally just waiting for cyber weekend to see if I can score any deals.  Will probably end up picking up the x99 classified to stick my 6850k in and if i can find any awesome 1070 deals to add to my folding server.   Then I should be good to go until volta comes out.  A rig for me, a rig for the wife...everything else gets converted to server crunch/folding duty for me.

That's funny...I'm thinking about doing something very similar. Either the x99 FTW or Classified with a 6850k.  Time to retire the cramped and packed old Antec 901. Think I'm going with a Corsair 780T.

I recently just purchased the Classified X99 board and I am extremely happy with it.  Yes it lacks RGB and lighting on the board and it lacks wifi, but that is the point of me choosing it if I want a dance room I will go to a bar.  If you are building a gaming rig put it on Cat6 diet and be done with it.   The board has proven itself time and time again against many others and holds it own quite well.  Another reason is this late in the game all this boards gremlins are ironed out.  That is my problem with Asus I built on there boards for over 10 years for myself and others and it seems if they run into big troubles they just push another revision out and could care less about the customers they left with past issues.

Ask yourself this what is the point of PCI-E lighting?  once a card is in there you won't directly be able to see it.   Most enthusiast builds run some form of case lighting, which in my case is Casemods Widebeam and I can assure you I have seen many reviews these LEDs drown out about any MB lighting.  Will I stick with an EVGA MB time will tell I will say MB could take a few hints from them with there 90 cable connections.   My 6850k went straight to 4.4 at 1.33 with NO issues and stupidly stable I need to stop being lazy and see how much lower I can get with the voltage.

ahhh sweet.  Good to know.  I hve the same cpu and planning on the classified.  Just waiting for the weekend to see if i can score any sales but if not ill pull the trigger on monday and just wait.  I dont have time to aseemble it till after finals anyways so no biggie.  Plus have to wait on EK to ship my cpu block to me anyways, which should be here after this weekend.   I like buying late in the game because all the quirks have been fished out and its sually cheaper than buying something fresh.  Plus EVGA customer support has always been the king, they take care of their own leagues above the others so I always buy their product whenever I can.
