Most of the servers that I play on regularly (TBG) have a language enforcer that is only tweaked for racist/religious hate remarks - but general curse words are not targeted.  The way they work is that anyone that gets popped for those remarks is not warned but immediately kicked/banned.  Sometimes (rarely) the system will pop someone for a misspelling or something where they can go to the forum and request to be un-banned.  However they have their system set up works VERY well and for the most part there aren't ever any issues on those servers.  If there is usually one of the regulars is recording and submits it on the forum and that person is banned.

I'm not complaining about the language system - I'm just saying it might be helpful to contact one of those folks to get some tips on tweaking these servers...  Their servers stay full so they obviously know what they're doing.

Instead of kicking or bans, do any EGC admins use the kill command at all?

I've kicked and banned my share of players years ago but found the kill command to be effective without it affecting the targeted players' stats. The players end up being less emotional too.

As for that ProCon Language Enforcer plugin, I used it for a week and it gave me nothing but headaches. It caused my server ranking to plummet and players bailed out of the server in droves.

EVGA can keep tweaking that plugin all they want but nothing beats using the kill or kick command yourself when some pugnacious player throws out racist vitriol in the server.

Yes, I use the kill command.

i don't know if the same rule applies to evga official discord server or not. If it does, violence is screwed.

Yes, we have the same rules for our Discord server

EVGA renting game servers as a big well known company also is held under a different standard than just some guy.

Servers have been becoming better over the years not worse in my view.

^ This. :) As a corporate entity, they are held to a higher standard than just a clan/individual renting a server.

Which U.S. BF4 server do you guys usually play in?

I see an LA and a NJ server for EVGA.

If you guys are referring to me, when you say, "just some guy", or, "just a clan/individual", well believe it or not the policies I've had in my servers had similarities to those of EVGA, such as no racism, no homophobia, no hate speech, no politics, etc.

In the servers I had run, I installed Metabans and saw it fit to subscribe/follow BizSar's account.

Yes! BizSar does have a Metabans account!! :)

This meant that whoever BizSar banned in EVGA servers, those bans took effect in mine as well!

Very good thread.

And you good sir are part of the reason for it. I miss so much gaming with you, beamer, rick and so many others. Those were the days

Thank you. Feeling is mutual. I have enjoyed last get together that was organized for our late friend Todd by you and the others. That was very nice. I much appreciate your effort.

Time is not my friend these days. I have baby on the way and I am busy with work. Winter is coming so maybe I will have more time to dedicate to gaming before newborn arrives. I have managed to play maybe 2 hours of BF1 since release just to get feel for it.

Now, when it comes to administrating servers. I have been EGC admin since BC2 days and until recently. IMO having too many rules drives people away or causes unnecessary drama. Having unexperienced admins will do the same thing. However when administrating server one should also use common sense when applying rules. Sinned, Bio and X-Ray do the good job of it.

EGC = EVGA Gaming Community last time I checked. Thank you EVGA for your support in renting server space for us gamers. You do more for this community then most other companies.

However, in the years past we were left alone to administer servers and community grew quite a bit in one year. Same players gathered on the servers and voice chat night after night and it was quite enjoyable to play with you all. Occasional hackers, spammers, bigots, etc… were dealt with quickly and nothing would get out of control. Our input as EGC admins was always taken seriously in regards to rules (which there was not many), server positions across US and new gamers being accepted as admins. Something changed……….. When we go to play we want to feel free and not feel like we have corporate/congressional oversight on top of us. We get that at work all day long. This goes for both admins and players. Trying to enforce every rule and trying to make everyone happy will never work. Such things cannot be accomplished. Sometimes decisions have to be made depending on the mood of the server in that particular time. Admins should assess situation on the server before making any decisions. What I am trying to say is, we had good time and everything else took care of itself.

Just my $0.00000002……. Maybe I am wrong.

See you on the Battlefield….
