Best thing to do at this point would be to contact evga to see if they may be able to fix your issue with a vbios update. http://www.evga.com/about/contactus/

Finally you show up! Hehe I've been waiting.

Sajin is the main man around here.

Hi! I wan't to thank the EVGA support team!

Approximately one week ago I received my UEFI modified vBios for my GT640 card, and patched succesfully. My problem still persisted. I got a black screen (i.e. no video display) before booting into Windows 8.1. Only after the Windows driver was loaded and the logon screen was loaded, I got video display.  As a result, boot (BIOS) displays were inaccessible (like the BIOS of my Acer, and booting into safe mode was impossible without visual display for example).

BUT: the SOLUTION for my problem was found!!

I had to SHUT DOWN my monitor (NEC Multisync LCD 2080UX+) completely (so not on standby, but really with the OFF button), THEN shut down my computer, THEN (while my monitor was STILL OFF) press the ON-button of my computer again, and THEN after approx. one second PUT my monitor back ON !! ... What happened was amazing: I suddenly got a Pre-BOOT display again!! And my monitor "remembered"the pre-win resolution and saved it into it's NVRAM, because after that magic trick I now can safely reset my computer  I see a BIOS bootscreen, and Windows 8 is loading without problems ofcourse..

I hope the above trick for getting EVGA video display is some help for anyone having similar black-screen problems with their EVGA cards into their Acer computer. I have an Aspire M3985 computer, with a EVGA GT 640 video card (4GB DDR3 RAM) installed.

Thanks again for mailing me the latest UEFI Bios!

EZtouch you may want to give that a shot to see if it helps resolve your issue.

Turning on/off the screen at the mentioned timings and other timings/combinations did not solve the problem.

Update: I've just visited my friend's house, he has the exact same monitor and motherboard model as mine, just an older bios (mine has the latest). I took my whole system with me. we tested the same port in the graphics card.
We unboxed his new MSI 1060 and tested it on my system, and it worked just fine.
Then we tested my 1080 on his system, and it worked just fine.
Then we placed my 1080 in my system again, and it worked just fine! (did not change anything in the bios/hardware/system).
if you were following this forum thread/topic, you would've seen that when I replaced my 1080 with my brother's 970 the issue was gone, restarting, shutting down, cold boot, nothing could reproduce the issue, until i did a windows update (security update to visual c++ redistributable) when the issue came back. the same thing happened now, when i place the 1060 in my system, then my 1080 back, the issue was gone once again, no beeps, no vg_led light that stays lit all the time, i can see and access the bios and safe mode.
At the moment the issue is gone, but it could come back after a windows update/random restart. I know that I need to place another graphics card in my system, post it, shut it down, then place the 1080 back to fix the issue, but I think this is a temporary solution, since the issue came back yesterday.
I think either the motherboard BIOS or the 1080's bios has a bug/issues.

That's interesting.

Sounds like the main monitor don't like the bios on the 1080.

Soo... I restarted my PC just now and the issue is back... I tried restarting before (when the issue was temporarily fixed) and that did not reproduce the issue... now it happens every time.

Faulty monitor cable?? Pins bent in the connector?

Did you take your cable with you to your friends house?

No, I used his cable, the display works fine once Windows loads the display driver. Fairly certain it's a BIOS issue... I guess I will email evga to request an updated vbios

I've just sent support@evga.com the following email

title: vbios update request to fix issues
body:
Dear evga support team,

I have been having issues with my new GTX 1080 FTW Hybrid as you can see in the following forum thread:
http://forums.evga.com/Help-me-get-my-new-1080-FTW-Hybrid-up-and-running-m2564247.aspx

I called you and you went with me through the motherboard’s bios settings, and we change stuff but with no use.
The evga forums moderator, Sajin recommended me to contact you to ask for a vbios update. http://forums.evga.com/FindPost/2564816

Please supply me with update vbios with the most up to date GOP UEFI driver. My GOP version is from April, and the 1070 has just received an update with a GOP version from September.
Hopefully the BIOS update for the graphics card resolves the issues. (Please make sure that the GOP driver version you provide me is the same or newer than the one that came with the 1070’s update bios, more details below).
Note: it has master/slave so I will need two versions of the BIOS.

More Information:

My GOP details
Nvidia GOP 0x30002  Variant 0x0000000000000007 = GP1xx

Dated: Apr  1 2016  Changelist 20605201

The updated 1070 GOP details
Nvidia GOP 0x30005  Variant 0x0000000000000007 = GP1xx

Dated: Sep 12 2016  Changelist 21147289

Best regards,

Not sure it can be a bios issue when your friend has the same monitor and your card worked there on his.. maybe his monitor has a different firmware then yours or your monitor just won't save whatever info it senses off the gpu so it will work right with the hand shake.
