Could it be related to the power socket adapter used in Dubai?  Do you use the standard 3 pin British plug (220-240v) or were you using a power converter?  Sounds like a power surge of some type.  What kind of "voltage wall regulator" were you using?

yup, in Dubai we use the standard British 3 pin plug and I'm not using any power converters. I'm using a Masterplug power surge protector and voltage regulator.

All other PC components are working fine btw, MB, CPU RAM .. etc and I tried two different graphic cards on the mb and all working fine

Cool GTX
Glad to see the rest of your PC was spared any damage.  Nice to have spare GPU, even if it is an older one

Dear darksouls,

I am sorry to hear that you had a problem with your card.  I can't say for sure what happened, but I can assure you that we are here for help with warranty.  I have escalated your thread to our EU support team and I expect that they will contact you once they open.

As usual was on a normal game of over watch, suddenly i heard a bang as something blew in my case!! and the screen went black, checked the side panel of the case and could clearly see a small flame coming out of the card which was there for a bit with some smoke that followed.

The damage is at the capacitors section i guess or the voltage regulators not sure tbh

I'm using a corsair 1200i PSU and also a wall voltage regulator. Furthermore, I never opened the card nor did i remove the back-plate, furthermore, I never OC'ed it and placed in a well ventilated case

Is it only some bad luck or anyone else had similar problems with the card. I've Always used EVGA cards and this never happened to me before

The problem is that I bought this from Amazon and I live in Dubai, is there a way to RMA it to Dubai instead of shipping to the USA or Europe which will cost me a lot (more than 150$) and might take some time, I might get the card back in month or so !!!

I would appreciate it if someone can help on this please

I uploaded a photo of the area the card caught fire at

Cheers

DS

Thank you Chris, your help is much appreciated

Well since i posted this thread amonth back it seems that the problem was related to the vrm overheating issue afterall ...

I got my replacement card from EVGA europe super fast ... big thnx to the team there but now im worried that this card will go bad as well ... anyone knows if they addressed this problem with the replacement cards ??? I oredered the pads from evga and still waiting on them ...

Furthermore, now i have another 1080 ftw hybrid ..running in sli with the replacement card .. waiting as well on the 1080 ftw hybrid to hit amazon as evga does not accept international cc's ..

Should o worry about the hybrid as well .. does it have the same problem ? Anyone ?

Enter your serial numbers there. If the cards have been shipped before 30/8 there is a 4% chance you have faulty VRM
IF that is the case, you should have seen an error by now.

Greetings from Dubai btw, mate :D waiting for my hybrid to arrive from a german outlet via SnS.

It's an importer from the US, selling via ebay. Nothing too professional and I just got it out of personal acquaintance.
I'd give it another month or two before you can expect any reasonable stock of hybrid kits or even cards around here. Been told that the big suppliers sit in the EU and they will of course first make sure that the EU is covered before the middle east gets it's piece. And then there are the customs and the fact that many stores around don't go for EVGA but Asus, because of the kids with the big wallets and all the brand awareness on their mind.
