Like why - you can't even see the pixels or see the difference between 2k and4k with a phone - unless you have some funky eagle eyes

I have some pretty epic eyes, but anything above 2560x1440 on a phone screen is pretty well a waste of expense and GPU usage.

I can still see pixelation on my 24" 4k screen, so that could benefit from 8k. But a 5-6" screen at 4k?

VR is driving the screen resolution, not what you can see while it's in your hand. You stick a phone on your face, your eyes are going to be close enough to notice the PPI even at 4k.

Brad is absolutely correct on this. VR is what will drive higher res screens. However, if you want a REGULAR screen resolution those will always be available and at good pricing if you don't want the major sellers. I just picked up a Lenovo Zuk 2 Pro 128GB memory phone at a very good price. I needed the extra memory for work.

I also have an iPhone 7 plus 32GB on order but that is only for testing apps.

Sony's Z5 premium had a 4K display  / camera but it rendered at 1080 and upscaled the display to save on processing power/battery.  If they did that I think it would be OK - or gave the option.  Otherwise I would see it eating through battery really fast.

I'd imagine they'll likely give you the option of running 4k when you want or dropping the resolution down to something lower should you want.

That'd be the best of both worlds. Going to do some VR? Pop that res up. Back to phone mode? Drop the res and enjoy a beautiful screen with longer battery life.

I just hope they do all launch with Exynos.  They did it with the S6 but went back to Qualcrap with the S7 series (in the US).  All the reviews show that the Exynos variant of the 7 series runs much better and smoother than the 820 does.  Part of the reason I bought my Note 5 instead of a 7 series.

Samsung install 4K display and Apple create gadgets trends and fashion trends.
Anyway iPhone 7s will be real deal for anyone or if someone is impatience than iPhone 7.
Don't think that I hate Samsung, they will profit for me more than Apple this year for M.2 and SSD but not for cell phone.
Company as Apple happen once in century. 
When I think on Apple company immediately one word is in my mind Clean.
Everything look so clean, bright, silver, white, weird... I'm so happy because instead 5s I bought iPhone SE.
Apple build him because company probably notice significant number of people
who think is it late for iPhone 5s as they first iPhone, who can't afford better models and for now after 6 months from presentation comments are 90% very positive with small flaws, some of them because small device and for others they are not even flaws.
Some news with task to delay as much possible iPhone 7 orders go so far to say that Apple prepare iPhone 8 and will install him very soon.
Because marketing team know that some percent of people who plan to buy iPhone 7 and want now will gave up from upgrade only if they wait little, for many people most important is to show iPhone 7 in caffee bar next days after launch. If they wait little more  that's chance to pay attention on Samsung news.

 
As long as the thing doesn't explode.
