I recently bought the x99 Ftw K and am getting error code CD, unable to post even with 1 stick of ram and cmos reset.


Below are my specs, can anyone please advise if it's a cpu, bios or ram issue?


Xeon e5 2630 v4 quality sample. 2015, week 33 version, same stepping and clocks as retail cpu. (Tested with 2 CPUs)


Ballistix 16gb ram (8gb x2) BLS2K8G4D240FSB bought from Amazon

1x Reference Rx 480 (tested with an asus and msi card one at a time)


I notice that Xeon v4 CPUs and my ram aren't in the officially supported list.

Can anyone advise if Xeon v4s and my ram works with the board out of the box or requires bios updates? Or perhaps the Evga x99 Ftw k doesn't support quality sample CPUs with retail stepping?

Any advise is much appreciated, thank you.

You likely don't have the latest BIOS installed which adds Broadwell-E compatibility (Xeon or i7).

Register your motherboard if you haven't already: https://www.evga.com/support/register.asp

Thanks, I have contacted them about sending a bios chip, hopefully that will resolve the issue. The box mentioned support for broadwell E though.

Oh it does, just like all EVGA X99 boards - it was added in BIOS 2.01

My motherboard is evga x99 micro bios 2.01.
Do you think it will work?

There is a good chance that it will. However, be aware that Engineering Samples are often flawed and won't work quite right in addition to missing options that retail chips have.

For myself, I tried a 2690 V4 Engineering Sample with my X99 Classified. Unfortunately, putting it under any sustained full load caused blue screens no matter what voltage I gave it.

What qdf code do you have? Stepping info? Motherboard bios version?
Do you have hwinfo screenshoot for that Processor?
I look at ebay, the seller description says Evga x99 all families supported.

The one you buy may not have problems like mine did - just make sure the seller that you purchase from will accept returns.

arrow222 I'm looking at the same CPU for use with this board.  Did the new BIOS fix your problem?  There are currently no v4's listed on the compatibility guide.
