You can get the engine to put in another vehicle for only $15,199.

Different strokes for different folks on that one. That's over 1/3 the price of the ZL1. Personally I would rather have the whole car fine tuned with a full warranty for less then 2/3's more. What an awesome machine!

Whole car would be nice, but just think what kind of sleeper you could make with that engine and transmission.

Though the engine transplant has merit. But you would have to build the rest of the car to match

Part of the appeal is the other important specs.
1.02 g max cornering - (on new street tires)
60-0 mph braking in 107 feet (32 meters)

Lets see......
Take 240Z, drop in that HP, Bembo brakes, new trans, new rear, new driveshaft, custom coil over, custom wheels & tires, stiffen frame & add roll cage = $$$$$$
Go hunting for Cobras, Porsches, BMWs, Vetts

Other wise it will drive like all the other late 60s muscle cars - great in a straight line, as long as you do not have to stop or turn at speed

That is a lot of cash for a car....but if you have the money and want it...go for it

For the performance, it's a bargain!

You using fuzzy math there?
I think 15,199 is roughly 1/4 the price of 62,000 I do believe 20,766 would be roughly 1/3 the price.

You could drop that motor in a VW bug or a Honda Accord and make a nice ultimate sleeper.
I say that because there is a WV bug and a Honda Accord running around local with Chevy 350s in them.

I do believe you could make more than 650HP with a lot less money than 15,000 dollars.

Buy a 2017 Camaro SS, install a centri blower of your choice, immediately make over 600whp, pocket the extra 15k you would've spent to get the ZL1.

Something that the all the manufacturers are doing that makes absolutely no sense to me is these new slush box transmissions that have 8+ gears in them.  They're saying 10 for the ZL1.

Why????

That is absolutely useless in street car.  The only thing it really accomplishes is adding more parts, more weight and more complications and headaches.  As for drivability?  The car is going to downshift 1 to 2 gears if you even say the word "throttle".

Because they shift faster then humans can. Pretty sure I read that the auto weighs less then the manual trans.

It's not about how fast they shift.  It's about the fact that an 8, 9 or 10 speed transmission is going to constantly shift.  The gears are going to be way too close to each other to be practical.  I hear it every time I go down the freeway, any throttle tip in and the vehicle changes the gear.

A dual clutch is all fine and good (if you like boring) as long as there are a reasonable amount of gears involved.  A 6 speed is really the most that a gasoline powered car ever really needs.  7 is doable but overkill.

I'm thinking like Gas Monkey Garage type build, use that awesome engine and drop it into an older car. They dropped drive train out of a 2015 Scat Pack into an old 1971 Challenger R/T Scat Pack.

Then you don't care about performance. Plus it gets rid of the gas guzzler tax.

You have to really want it though. $62K is still a lot of money to put down just to enjoy the performance. If they're wanting to, however, go for it!

IMO: (Let the flames come, because I know they'll come) Chevrolet is to Intel as Ford is to AMD. Ford could provide the exact same thing with pretty much a reduced price, while Chevrolet (or should we just call it GM?) will have it too with a hunk of a price tag.

(Just some side note information, not that it really matters to you all, but it could matter. Ford has a contingency plan for their automotive freight in case their contracted carriers break down and are unable to cover the freight in order to be shipped to their plants. The GM plants do not have this feature, and rely fully on the contracted carrier(s) to fully deliver. It's a live or die situation for the contracted carrier to run freight for GM, as GM does not have any plan B, and they require the contracted carrier to fully deliver, or they pay for all expenses when the plant shuts down. I'm not sure if this is due to the fact that GM was bailed out by the government years ago or not and that might be why Ford is able to afford a broker carrier, which is NLMI/XPO, in case the contracted carrier(s) break down and are unable to cover. Perhaps this is why GM cars are more expensive? Maybe I'm wrong on this.)

Don't get me wrong on any of this, I'll choose GM over Ford any day.

????

How is not wanting 10 gears or an automatic not caring about performance?

Anyway, it seems like Im the odd one out when it comes to these multiple gear automatics.  Everyone else is excited about it.  Okay.  I'll stay over here with my antiquated 3 pedals and 5 gears.
