I do not look at the head room on the PSU but the Pull on my UPS Units.
I can pull 1000+ Watts Per UPS that is each Power Supply has its own UPS Unit.
So far my Max on the PSU that has my 4 GTX 980 was 980 Watts.
I want to keep them below 800 to allow 10 minuets run times after a power outage.
So I took the 6-Pin PCIe Power Cable and connected it to the PSU that runs the Motherboard and Device connect to it.
This added 120-130 watts to this power supply to my MB PSU, I was surprised that this Pulled this high of wattage.
My GPU PSU Max now is 760 Watts and my MB PSU is 680 Watts so I have good running time and protection now.
I have been doing this for years on my Servers with Redundant Power Supplies.

I see, well i really dont care for those things. Seem like a waste of money to me, if all you are doing is delaying an outage by 10 minutes. Folding already has checkpoints so its not like an improper shutdown will terminate your current work unit. Unless you are doing other truely sensitive tasks on that machine.

I use UPS's on 4 of my folding machines.
Also set the checkpoint time to 3mins, the minimum..

Everyone has their own way of doing things. A user power down is a lot better than a power lost forced shutdown!!!

Each to their own..

Well my last and current Server just cost me $9000.00 so paying $300 for a UPS to provide Clean Power and protection is more then worth it.
The Checkpoint on the Folding Task is not even a thought in my mind, it is the protection of Hardware.
We seem to have a lot of 2 and 3 Minute Power Outages and sometimes their are 3 or 4 of them in a row.
And Power On Power OFF and repeat and repeat is not a good thing for any Computer or any other Electronic Device.

Funny thing is though its all completely back together and i could fill the loop with water and test it i cant. i now have to take it all apart so i can paint the rusty screws, remove the two defective gpu blocks so i can replace them tomorrow, and i have to finish the led harness on the gpu's when the leds also arrive tomorrow.

Oh and i need to record tomorrow so i can make that final completed pc video.

I did HVAC and some plumbing for many years, water boilers, steam, Nat gas gas pipe, refrigerant piping and so on.
One of the best ways to test for leaks before we would put in water or refrigerant is test with air pressure. Nitrogen is best but air is good too. (Just not in refrigerant pipe)
A small system like a computer would be easy to do with a small air compressor or a bicycle pump, a fitting and a gauge.
Could even do it with a hand held vacuum pump like a brake bleeder pump and a gauge. If it holds pressure or holds a vacuum it should hold water.
Easier to fix a leak with out having to drain, fix, refill, test, drain, fix, refill........
