wow, I'm on my 3rd RMA 1080 ftw (4th card) from Evga and I was never handed a recertified card before. My 4th card is arriving tomorrow so I'll have to see.

Amazon have kindly extended my 30 day return to 60, if I get any problems this time round I'm getting a full refund and going else where.

Wow that sucks, can you tell me how you got your Amazon return extended?

The card was in a 100% sealed retail box, it was missing the extra fan screws, the product manuals, and a few other things too.  I bet that they are testing / inspecting the cards and someone dropped it and then put it back into the box threw a seal on it and sent it out.  Chris from EVGA has already apologized for this and they will be replacing the card again as he knows that this is also unacceptable too.

Wait, did your RMA card come in an EVGA box? Mine came in a EVGA box with no software, manual or power connectors. I sent my old card back in the same box and kept the original retail box with all the accessories.

Black box inside the retail packaging missing everything but the power connectors.

Hmm, maybe I should've kept my original retail box then? I sent the defective card(s) back with everything they came with, including the retail box. The 1st RMA card I got came in the sealed retail packaging but had the missing bios switch. My 2nd / current RMA card came with just the black box (no retail box) but all accessories and manuals were included. No idea if refurbished or not. I haven't experienced the black screen issue now for almost the 5 days I've had the card, but I don't like the manufacturer silence on the matter and who knows if it could happen again 5 months from now. No idea whether or not I want to keep this.

I contacted Amazon though their Contact Us page.  https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/help/customer/contact-us (UK ofc)

Choose "An order I placed" > "choose a different order" > selected my Evga 1080 ftw > then continue to "Tell us more about your issue".

Just explained the situation that my order was going back and forth to Evga, and that each card was having the black screen + fan issue.

They said if it comes back again with any problems just send it back to us. That's when they extended my return to 60 days to ensure I have enough time to test the card out.

If there is a problem with the card all I need to reply to the last email Amazon sent me and they will create a personal return label. Just need to send it back then and done.

Thanks for that, I've decided to return the original defective card for a full refund, and send the RMA back to EVGA. I am very unhappy with this whole experience and will likely choose a different card or wait a while for the FTW issues to be fully resolved.

EVGA support has been great, but at the current time I am not confident enough in the process to accept a replacement.

I got my replacement FTW from the RMA and I can say that it doesn't boost as well as the older card did (about 75 MHz less). I also notice quite a bit of coil whine under load and the LED seems to do a rainbow effect from the back of my case, where the older FTW was quite more white. However, the black screen/100% fan issue seems to be corrected but I'm still worried if it's gonna re-appear later since I haven't been able to play much since then (working lots of overtime hours lately).

I've read this entire thread and I am worried with buying a FTW edition. Even after several RMA's after the 'fix date' people seem to have issues. I think it is a better option to go with the Classified instead. In my Country the Classy is 2$ cheaper than the FTW anyway.

What do you guys think?

I haven't heard about the Classified having the same issue. But, if I had a choice now having 2 bad cards I personally wouldn't get an EVGA 1080, I would choose a different manufacturer all together. I don't have the confidence in these 1080 cards.

Go with the Classified. If its cheaper too its a no brainer. Not seen any indications that this issue effects the Classified....but then that could just be because they're still in fairly limited supply

I would not got with evga for the 1080 GTX, facts are :
  • We are completely in the dark regarding this issue (no official explanation from EVGA)
  • Several RMA cards sent after 30th of August have still the issue.
Custom evga PCB seems to be the root cause because it is the only brand suffering from this kind of issue.
