And still, no official word (in detail) from EVGA. I'm pretty sure they aren't blind, but apparently they can't comprehend this doesn't bode well with people...

Yeah they should give an explanation. Also it's really bad that people RMA and get cards with the same problem.

This was my 1st EVGA and i even recommend it to a friend of mine, but after this issue i told him not to buy.

Seriously this problem happened to me once however hasn't happened to me since but I really don't know if it's worth it to RMA right now atleast until I know it won't happen at all to the new cards.

Same for me. Only happened once. But I don't get long hamming sessions in to really test it. I'm going on my Honeymoon for a month now so hopefully when I'm back a fix will be out and hopefully firmware. If I have to RMA I'll be annoyed as I sold my old gtx 970

Definitely seems to get more frequent. initially mine only crashed twice in a week of fairly heavy use. A week after that it was happening every 20 minutes.
So even though my replacement only crashed once I didn't wait to it to go a 2nd time before RMAing that one too. Here's hoping my 3rd card is issue free

Oh and grats! Enjoy the Honeymoon :)

What games are y'all playing that's making it crash? I think mine did this, this past weekend playing overwatch. But it has since not done it. I play overwatch, Arma 3, breaking point, Squad, America's Army and the Division. I haven't been able to get it to happen again

It happened twice when I was playing Dragon Age: Inquisition and one time just idling in the desktop.

Btw, no advanced rma for the eu citizens, without paying the collateral.

Witcher 3 is one I see people mentioning a lot. Seen WoW & Total War Warhammer too mentioned a few times too.
Personally for me it was Witcher 3 and Warframe

There doesn't seem to be any sure-fire way to get it to happen on command though, its all very temperamental.
Maybe lose track of time and not save your game for 2 hours, that'll do it :/

For me it happened with Elite Dangerous and Battlefield 4, once each, but I don't play a lot.

Someone to confirm that the shipping cost is taking care of by EVGA with that specific issue (blackscreen + max fan) in Europe with a Standard RMA?

The answer I received couple hours ago.

"We are terribly sorry for the issue with your card and we would of course like to offer you a RMA as well as a Pick-Up for your card.
Please let us know when you would like us to create the Pick-Up after you have created the RMA request.
The Pick-Up is usually carried out on the next business day after it has been created.

Please note that an advanced RMA without the security deposit is not possible, but even the standard RMA has a very quick turnaround: the processing time for the Standard RMA is approximately 3 business days after we receive your card."

So no shipping costs.

Just to add my name to the list, I have two of these cards in SLI. Running on a 4k screen I would get the black screen almost immediately in several games. Tried each card independently and they both have the issue boosting up to 2025Mhz for a few seconds then black screen.

Debug mode does nothing for mine, the only way I could get it to work without crashing is underclocking both cards in evga precision by about -150Mhz, temps under load around 40c +/- 5c or 6c.
They are doing the advanced RMA for me however they said I can only do one card at a time.

I just hope it's not a refurb and their "fix" is just nerfing the clocks because I spent a lot of money on my rig (first build in 10 years) and these cards are in the back of my mind the one flawed part to my machine reputation wise, even if it's "fixed" how do I know I'm getting all the frames I'm paying for. I am hoping the Titan comes out soon and they will allow me to step-up.

Attached are the imaged of the card that I received to replace my faulty GTX 1080, as I mentioned EVGA has already put me back into the queue to get another GTX 1080 and has been more than helpful and apologetic about these issues.

Was this card sealed in a retail box? That is totally unacceptable and rather worrying that such damage could occur and then somehow bypass QA. My RMA card does have some superficial scratches and the protective film was completely missing, but even my retail card had scratches in the same location. At least it's better than some of the damage I have seen on the Gigabyte cards with bent fans though.

I mean I am very happy with my RMA card so far, but it still worries me deeply that our expensive super high-end premium graphics cards are actually not so 'premium'.

I agree some kind of explanation from EVGA would really help to put our minds at rest, but I understand that tech support & engineers likely are muted in this regard for legal/liability reasons. Even so an official explanation is long past due and EVGA need to backup their industry leading customer support with some industry leading explanations of what went wrong here.

The card was in a 100% sealed retail box, it was missing the extra fan screws, the product manuals, and a few other things too.  I bet that they are testing / inspecting the cards and someone dropped it and then put it back into the box threw a seal on it and sent it out.  Chris from EVGA has already apologized for this and they will be replacing the card again as he knows that this is also unacceptable too.

My latest replacement card was sealed but in that solid black box that comes inside the regular retail box. It didn't come with the regular retail box. Curious if anyone else is receiving replacement 1080's like this. I assume that means the card has been checked prior to shipping, fine by me.
