It's very inconsistent. I'll get a few hours of gaming in and no issues but then sometimes it won't stay up for more than a few minutes. Just turned on my PC today and not 10 seconds at the Windows lock screen from a cold boot and boom.

So you are saying this happened to you when you did not start up a game?

Just an FYI, I said in a few topics that I had fixed this, but I haven't. V Sync has helped a few games, an additional fan helped a few games, but fallout 4 still crashes, and the tessellation test in the EVGA OC checker still crashes inconsistently too. I'm going to just return it to the store or RTM.

Honestly guys, if you're experiencing these symptoms (Black Screen crash + 100% Fan speed requiring hard reboot) and your GPU isn't over heating, return it for a replacement. It's a card fault.

I have done literally everything anyone has recommended me to try and fix it including but not limited to the following;
Re-installed Windows - Updated Bios - Clean driver install - Tested RAM - Tested 12v PSU rail - Changed PCI-E Slot - Checked Cabling - Re-seated all hardware - Monitored temperatures under full load - Jacked up Fan speeds, Installed extra cooling - Tested while underclocked, tested in debug mode - It all results in an eventual crash for no apparent reason.

It's although the GPU believes an overheat is immanent, and pulls the plug on itself.

I'm back on my old 970 SLI set up and everything is running normal. And all those tests were a big ****ing waste of time because the card is clearly ****ed. RMA already given the green light.

So now I have to RMA my card as well :(  This is happening again and much more frequently.  I HOPE this is not a defect with all of the FTW cards.

I have to bump this thread.

I recently bought my EVGA GTX 1080 FTW card and whenever I am playing World of Warcraft, I will, at random, get a black screen and then the fans rev up to.  So far, I have tried the following troubleshooting efforts:

1. Clean installed the Nvidia Driver (Driver 372.54)
2. Used MSI Afterburner and downclocked the memory and core clock 100MHZ (EVGA Precision does wierd things to my typing speed when my computer first boots)
3. Cleared my CMOS
4. All my chipset and other motherboard drivers are up to date
5. BIOS is the latest version
6. Ran a scan and repair in Wow
7. All Windows Updates have been installed
8. Ran a sfc /scannow to check any SSD errors. None were found
9. Reseated my video card
10. Changed out PSU power plugs
11. I am awefully particular about dust, so no dust is present within the computer
12. BIOS setting are all at default. I am not overclocking anything
13. Deleted ****, Cache and Interface folders (WOW folders)
14. Ran Furmark for over an hour and it detected nothing
15. Did a extended memtest and it found no errors
16. Went into the registry, added TdrDelay and added the value of 8

So, with all that done, I did some further research and I found several posts above that someone downclocked their card down to 200MHZ.  I tried that in an invasion yesterday for about an hour and did not experience a crash.  I'm going to test some more today, but do you all think I'm pretty close to RMA?  For the record, I previously had a 980FTW and I had to keep it downclocked at least a 100MHZ.  Here are my computer specs:

Processor: Intel Core i7 6700k (Corsair Liquid H80i liquid cooled)
GPU: EVGA GTX 1080 FTW
Motherboard: MSI z170 SLI Plus
Hard Drive: Crucial M4 512 SSD
PSU: Corsair 850 watt
RAM: Kingston Hyper X DDR4 2666

Any additional suggestions would be greatly helpful.

RMA it dude - It's definately the same bull**** everyone else has experienced. You'd think EVGA had outsourced their assembly line to some flea pit in Ragistan with the amount of people receiving defecting 1080s from them...

The funny thing is, when I called up and quoted the issues to the support team, they made out as if it was a problem they had never heard of before... They obviously don't bother googling because the internet is littered with people all experiencing the same ****...

I think there is some truth to what you are saying, xiionic and likely, I will just return the card.  It's a shame, I really like EVGA, but I have had nothing but bad luck with the cards.  I should not, under any circumstances, have to downclock my card.  I understand there are a lot of variables involved, but if all my equipment is what it needs to be, I should not be encountering unstable clock speeds or anything of the sort.  Ugh...

Yeah I agree. And after a lot of testing and finally running in debug mode everything is working so far. So my only conclusion is that on many of these cards if not all the factory overclock is not stable. :(

I had the exact issue when I first installed my 1080 FTW. I would be in the middle of playing Team Fortress 2 or Overwatch and all of the sudden the system would lock up, both screens would go black and the sound would stutter on the last sound played. The fans would rev up to the point where it sounded like a jet was taking off. Only way I could get out of it was holding down the power button to shutdown. Tech support suggested I use DDU to completely remove all traces of any video drivers and reinstall fresh drivers.

After that the problem went away. Unfortunately, after updating to the latest drivers the other day the problem has come back. Happening twice last night. Once after a few hours of play the second after only 30ish minutes.

My specs:
MOBO: Gigabyte Z170X Gaming GT
CPU: Core i7 6700k 4ghz (Corsair H100i liquid cooler)
GPU: GTX 1080 FTW
Memory: Corsair LPX 32gb 3200mhz (2 x 16gb)
HD: Samsung EVO 950 (M2 512gb)
PSU: EVGA P2 1000 (80+ platinum)
