Test with your games..

Yea but people are saying it can take 30 mins to 2 hours to happen. Surely there is a faster way to make it happen.

Playing the already mentioned games are the way. My card would PASS Heaven after 8 hours, PASS a over night loop (12 hours) of firestrike/sky diver.  Than absolutely FAIL with a black screen and 100% fans after 10~15 minutes of Tomb Raider/Witcher/DX9 MMO. Seems to me everyone's mileage may vary in reproducing the issue.

My replacement cards are on their way. I hope they didn't push it to stay within the promised timeline, I'd rather have 100% working cards. But from what I'm reading and since there is no response as to what is the actual problem and what they did to resolve it, in detail, I'm starting to think they are just guessing.

I'm gonna run ATS + K200 again tonight. If it blacks out 2 times I'm pretty sure I can reproduce the problem (since it was instant the 4 times I've tried it). And when my replacement cards do the same it's bye-bye EVGA. The lack of transparency here is killing my mood.

Hey guys, I posted earlier in this thread, same issues as most with similar games used (black screen, fan 100%). The card which was failing was a 2025mhz out of the box clock like many other posters have mentioned. An advanced RMA was advised by EVGA customer support and I received a replacement card very quickly. This card is slightly lower clocked out of the box at 2013mhz or so, but so far no issues and I have managed to get a solid overclock of around 130mhz with a very stable 66-67c temp on air. It throttles to around 2088 or something "off the top of my head".

In regards to the support, what can I say? EVGA have been nothing but commendable with their assistance from arranging the ADV RMA to having a UPS courier collect the faulty card free of charge. I have always bought EVGA cards in the past and this is the first time I have had to use their customer service but all I can say is it deserves all the praise it gets.

Fingers crossed it won't black screen...Hows the coil whine with your new card?
Others have said the coil whine has been pretty bad with the cards that have been fixed.

No coil whine at all, there was no coil whine with the first either though. Still have that "paranoid" feeling that I'm going to get hit with a black screen at any time when playing games and running benchmarks though! It has been 6 days with zero issues to date, so fingers crossed :)

Glad to hear some good news on this thread...most of it is depressing!

So I'm having a slightly different problem with mine, but I'm wondering if it's the same underlying issue. Here's how it went.

I pre ordered a GTX 1080 FTW and finally got my card in mid july and it's been working flawlessly for more than a month. Boosts itself to 2012mhz without me even touching it. Mid-late august I booted up the witcher 3 and noticed some strange graphical glitches after teleporting. It wasn't anything major, just some plants missing textures, and it went away once I restarted the game. A few days later while playing GW2 after changing maps I noticed some visual artifacts covering the top part of the screen, alt tabbed and it was gone. This happened once more since, but other than that nothing was out of the ordinary. The temps hovered around 50-65C, never even getting close to 70C, and everything ran smoothly. Until yesterday.. I left the PC for 15-20min while making dinner and when I got back upstairs the screen was black and the fans were spinning like crazy, nothing I did helped so I had to do a hard reboot. Now when I booted the PC back up the card was dead. Literally dead. The fans weren't spinning, the LEDs were off, and the monitor didn't recognize the card, but I could hear that the PC itself was working fine, the windows bootup sound played and everything, and the PC was completely fine once I plugged the monitor into the mobo.

I've tried everything I can think of, I swapped PCI-E cable, tried another PCI slot, even threw my old GTX 660 into the PC just to make absolute sure that the GTX 1080 was the issue.

I'm not sure if it's the same issue described in this thread since my card just flat out died, but now I'm at a loss.. I've set up an RMA request with the retailer I bought the card from and now I'm just waiting and hoping I'll have better luck with the new card. :/

Some of my games (including the Witcher 3) seem to get corrupted for no apparent reason.

I go into the "launch software" and do a "verify game cache" (for Steam...can't remember the other names...but similar operation).  And the glitches go away.  I discovered this by accident the first time for The Witcher 3 when my "stash" chest didn't appear where it was supposed to.  This happened for 980 Ti, 1080 FTW, and Titan X P cards.

Give this a shot.

The black screen and fans spinning at full is pretty much the common symptom amongst everyone here, and if as you say, it has been fine for a month up until now that is worrying. See if you can replicate the error and in the mean time contact EVGA support and see what they recommend, Hopefully, it was just a one off, cards occasionally fail, drivers fail, bsods and the like etc. maybe it was just bad luck..

I found that the first time I experienced the black screen and fans, after that it seemed to get progressively worse with increased frequency of it happening.

Yeah I can't really try to replicate the error since the card is completely 100% dead. :p The black screen and fans spinning thing only happened that one time for me, and after booting the PC up the next time the card was dead. I'm just gonna RMA with the retailer I bought it from, EU laws are great when it comes to this kind of stuff thankfully. I just hope I have better luck once I get a new card.
