Received my new 1080 FTW after RMAing my faulty one, very disappointed to find it has crazy coil whine and won't overclock anywhere near 2.1ghz like the old one did, I should have just gotten the super clocked one from the start and saved on it... nothing about FTW is for the win...

Well sounds like you got one of the fixed cards since they have a lower boost speed and dont overclock that great ..sorry to head about the coil though.

If this happens with my first RMA then I'll be getting a full refund. I don't pay out $700+ for a product for this sort of experience.

Is it me or are some pages missing? Funny thing is Gsync caused my GTA 5 crashes I guess. Disabled it and GTA 5 didn't crash on exit. Got home after work and tried agian with gysnc on and it exited fine. I am confused now. May have to cancel RMA with newegg. I sure wish I had a waterblock. Nevermind, spoke too soon. I'm not dealing with this anymore. I didn't pay this much to have issues.

Welp, I thought I was lucky and didn't get the problem at all, but happened to me once while I was playing Witcher 3 yesterday, both monitor turns black, fans sound like a jet engine. After the hard reset, I go in a play again for a couple of hours without any issue. Ever since I got the card, I've been playing Overwatch and BF1 without any issue so I  guess I'll try to hold off any sort of RMA until the problem is happening consistently.

Any idea if EVGA allows a combination of RMA and step-up? Kinda wanted to upgrade to Hybrid to lessen the heat.

Apparently if you are looking to RMA to EVGA Taiwan, a batch of fixed? 1080 will only arrive from next week. Although my support query was about their RMA system/website not working (EVGA TW), they didn't really answer my question whether the RMA system is down atm.

Anyway here is what they said:

Dear Customer

Sorry for the issue, please process RMA with the place of purchase first to see if they can offer quick swap service.

If you would like to process RMA with EVGA directly, can you hold RMA until next week ? Since the new card replacement will be arrived Taiwan next week.

Thank you

Unfortunately, I don't live in a area where I can easily swap from the vendor who sold it to me. In fact it's passed the 7 day purchase exchange T&C, so I guess I have to wait till next week for RMA.

Most likely not. I made a ticket right now as my Hybrid has the same problem. Let's see what the answer will be.

Got the new RMA card yesterday from Germany, I've tested the card and so far no issue.... I'm still anxious as it was happening any time after few hours of gaming with the old one....

I didn t notice any visual change close to the power connector vs former card.. also @ stock it overclocks @2025 Mhz by defaults like the older one.

I would be much more confident knowing what has been changed on the card...

I got the RMA card today as well. The clock is max at 2025, but frequently run at 1999, and i still need time to run games for few more hours.

Has anyone with their replacement RMA been able to overclock their card over 2000 MHz?  Synthetic benchmarks are fine at 2000 core but Overwatch, GTA 5 crash at that speed.

Mine is only stable at 1974 core / 5500 mem.  Not much of headroom for a pricey FTW card =\

I wonder if the SC is the better card in that case? Have these issues cropped up in SC as well or is that in the clear?

Unfortunatly i have the exact same problem with my GTX 1070 SC...
But i don't see many posts about the 1070 SC with the same problem
