Were you guys just getting the 100% fan issue/black screen? My card was also crashing games randomly more often (sometimes blue screen) even at stock speeds. Display Driver crashes and game crashes. I get my new card today so I hope it is all related. I had a GTX 780 for 3 years in the same setup that never crashed until I put this 1080 FTW card in...
Yes *mostly* the back screen and very loud fans - sometimes with the game still playing in the background but even then requires a hard power-down. I was also getting occasional other issues, such as freezing or stuttering but mostly when using the XOC software with the 'factory' overclock.
What is most interesting to me is almost all of the reports of this issue I have seen so far have reported the factory overclock at '2025Mhz' (mine too) - I don't think that can be a coincidence because my understanding is these parts would more than likely have differing factory over-clocks and it almost seems like these all had the same 'incorrect' overclock. My uneducated guess is EVGA have a newer version of the FTW/ACX card coming out and this batch had the incorrect BIOS, or at least the incorrect factory overclock data in their BIOS.
For me I could get the crash to happen 100% of the time by doing this in Elite Dangerous:
1. With fresh driver install after a DDU, making sure debug mode is not enabled in Nvidia control panel.
2. Install XOC, enter serial number, and leave at default factory overclock.
3. Boot elite dangerous into the game (solo or online doesn't matter).
4. Open the SYSTEM MAP.
5. Zoom in to a sun or planet.
6. Get treated to a black screen with fans going insane.
I could sometimes also get the same crash by initiating a hyperspace jump while looking sideways out of the cockpit at a close up sun.
After enabling DEBUG mode in the Nvidia drivers the problem went away 75% of the time, but would still crash occasionally. Using MSI afterburner to force the fans to 100% seemed to bring it up to 95% stable, but doing the same with XOC made no difference. In fact it seems to me that just having XOC installed/running results in much more frequent crashing, but that could just be a coincidence.
EVGA have already started the RMA process for me with an complimentary advance RMA and all shipping charges covered, so I am really really happy I chose EVGA for the warranty =)
