Please tell me that this is a BIOS update or something required. I just received my card today, have been testing with Heaven benchmark and have had the black screen 100% fans happen 3 times so far... really don't fancy doing an RMA and sending back a 1 day old card and being without it through the Battlefield 1 Open Beta period 😞

My very first EVGA card, disappointing start!

It is not a BIOS update, as I said above it is a hardware issue and requires an RMA.

Ok, just let me join this black screen club.
I bought my FTW 1080 about one month ago and noticed the black screen issue from 3 weeks ago. I spent tons of time to figure out the cause and try to fix it.
I wish I had read this post from the beginning so that I won't waste my time.
For me, the only game which causes the black screen issue is DCS A-10C which is a flight simulator. I can reproduce this issue pretty constantly (85%): just fly low altitude near surface and do some gun run to shoot buildings.
Other games play just fine, I can play GTA5/Crysis3/Battlefield4 for hours, no issue, even with overclocked GPU core to max boost 2113.5.

So if it is a hardware issue, I think EVGA is better to make a recall.

Also had the same problem with my 1080 FTW so RMA the same day of receiving the card

We have identified this and can confirm that this occurs on a small number of 1080 FTW cards. We have found the root cause and have corrected it. If you are experiencing this problem please contact us directly.

Hello Jacob
I live in China, on July 28th I bought my FTW 1080 from JD  which is one of EVGA's online retailer in China.
My card has this black screen issue, and apparently I have already missed the refund time limit.
So which EVGA support should I contact? Could you please give me an email address or phone number which works for me from China?
Thank you!

This the reasion why all 1070/1080 cards got "auto-notify" status on eu store? All stock vanished :D

I only just sent my rma card off today, should be with Evga in 3-4days. Since the cause has been found, I hope when they ship my replacement I get one of the newer 1080's with the fix.
I have my fingers crossed I'll get a decent card this time...third times a charm.

Edit: for those that are interested in what the black screen fan looks like in action, someone uploaded a video:

Yay! Kudos to EVGA for finding the fix before 15 pages of posts.  Got up to 9 pages and 3 weeks...acceptable well not really but still better than I thought. So I will definitely consider an EVGA card again in about 3 - 5 years. I knew this was a defect in the cards and not a power supply thing or a software thing.

Well, I just called EVGA and the ''fix'' that he found is an RMA.  You'd assume with the way this was said, you wouldn't have to send it in.

First EVGA card ever, wonderful.

This is exactly what happened with my card. First the black screen then fan spin up to 100%. Sometimes it will shut down by itself.
