I did the update same result set up a cross ship rma. Annoying though since signature is going to be required going to try to get it delivered to my local ups store. I wish I would have just returned it to Best Buy in my 14 day return window when it was (and still is doing) doing the random no POST on startup. Bought the thing on 10/8/16. Shame I'm going to end up with a used $450 graphics card.

I found out I was a BB elite plus member so just cancelled the RMA and returned. Having to deal with all the shipping and time and probably getting a refurb made me return it. Ordered a 1070 ftw from amazon. Almost got the 1080 but the $300 price difference was too much to justify. If this one gives me issues today I'm sending it back to amazon tonight and switching brands.

Hi guys, I'm only recently catching up to all of these issues. I need your opinion here.

I got my 1080 FTW back in July. In the first couple of weeks I had the 100% + BS issue. Maybe 3 times total. I haven't had any issues with it since and have been running with a fairly aggressive fan curve (as I always do). I assumed this was an issue with the early drivers released by Nvidia, but I now find out differently.

Now also reading about the pads/heat/fire issue I went ahead and placed an order for some pads to DIY it, but now I'm worried about the longevity of my card which has been operating without the pads and good bios for the last 4 months, hard driving almost every day. It was never a great overclocker (+72 on the GPU and +225 on the Mem, max), but I'm not sure if I want a refurb either. If it was new, it'd be a no-brainer...but it isn't. Seeing pics of people getting scratched up GPUs or GPUs missing pad applications is NOT encouraging.

What should I do? I defer to you guys experience in these matters.

Maybe talking to EVGA directly can help you out. If it fails near the end of the warranty period (2 years or so from now) I would say you got your money's worth. It's sad. New GPUs never last as long as old ones did. I still have a perfectly working GeForce 2 GTS with 64MB of vram. I just had to RMA a 9800GT and they replaced it with a gtx 650.

Roger that. I'll reach out to EVGA directly and get their thoughts.

Looks like PSU was my issue. Got a new one no issues yet. In the bios at idle the 12v rail was putting out 11.4-11.5 volts up and down. New PSU does 12.24 solid.

After talking to EVGA support for a few weeks (they take sometimes a whole week to reply...) I got approved for a 2nd RMA to fix this issue, hoping this one actually fixes it unlike the first RMA that was supposed to have fixed it, now i just have to wait for PayPal, I hope they provide a return shipping label like the first time, still the same issue so i don't see why they wouldn't.

Hey guys, long time EVGA customer but first time forum user here.

Ran into this same issue with my EVGA GTX 1080 FTW (08G-P4-6286-KR) late last week. I bought the card on the 30th of August but only got to use it in October because it arrived just as I left on vacation. GTA V and Mafia III all ran smoothly at max 1440p, but last week I started running into the black screen + 100% fan issue when playing The Witcher 3 (the crash would always happen during dialog cutscenes). I checked out this thread and tried out a few "fixes" but nothing worked probably due to the hardware nature of the issue. Due to the date of purchase it seems I received one of the messed up units, so I sent a support ticket on Monday to see next steps but have yet to receive a response. Hopefully will get this resolved soon.

As I side note, yesterday I tried reducing the GPU clock by 100Mhz as some have suggested as a short-term solution while waiting for EVGA feedback and can confirm it has been working, at least for now. I have seen my card going as high as 2025Mhz with no overclock whatsoever, and I'm pretty sure the crash occurs when this spikes even higher, so there's something definitely amiss there.

Let us know. I am also waiting for my replacement card. I tried all the "fixes" like you and nothing worked for me.

The EVGA rep said I'd be receiving the RMA email within a few hours to get the instructions and walkthrough for the process. That was 5 days ago.

I really hope this RMA moves smoothly because this situation is proving to be a freaking headache. And since I currently reside in Brazil, I'm already preparing myself for the extra long wait period for receiving the new card.

I will be receiving my RMA replacement tomorrow. My RMA was originally placed 11/02, so took about a week and half before the replacement shipped after I got approved.

One week ago I had a black screen 1 minute into bf1 multiplayer round.

This last monday in the morning just before work I had 4 black screens in a row right when I sat down to get my morning coffee and break.com. I was trying to watch some videos, probably flash players. This is what my event logger says from that morning. Kernel Power critical errors ( 41 ) I google this and see its related to power and electricity. I doubt its my psu as its fairly fresh and has been working flawlessly ( around 3 years old, gold seasonic 850w) its been powering two of my old 290s so one 1080 is a piece of cake for it. Everytime I lost the displays and the pc rebooted few seconds later.

My games work fine tho, except that one time in BF1. What should I do? card bought 14.07.16
