I am scared ****less. Just had a random out of the blue black screen one minute into BF1 session. It locked up hard with Black screens on my displays, the fan was a bit louder. Computer rebooted 20 seconds later by itself, It booted to windows and got another blackscreen 30 seconds later and it rebooted again. Event logger said something about kernel-power.

I really really hope its not my FTW ( bought July 14th )

fix only with RMA i thing. Do not care  EVGA have the best support i ever seen.
I recive this info,
he EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 FTW “Black Screen” issue was fixed as of the first week of September and this has been confirmed by all users who have received the replacement units with the issue resolved. Also, all new production has been confirmed to not have this issue after the first week of September.

This previous black screen issue was caused by On Semiconductor (VRM IC Manufacturer) VRM IC’s being out of spec, triggering the OCP (Over Current Protection) and will not cause any damage to your system. The percentage of the IC’s that were out of spec has been confirmed by On Semiconductor and is approximately 3% to 4%. Since then, EVGA and On Semiconductor have worked out the solution and RMA replacement action a couple months ago as we stated above. At this moment, all of the EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 FTW’s have been corrected and all products in the field are working properly.

Why are some who received RMA or bought a new card after September 1st and even after Oct. 1st also having the blackscreen 100%fan issue?

Hey guys, long time EVGA customer but first time forum user here.

Ran into this same issue with my EVGA GTX 1080 FTW (08G-P4-6286-KR) late last week. I bought the card on the 30th of August but only got to use it in October because it arrived just as I left on vacation. GTA V and Mafia III all ran smoothly at max 1440p, but last week I started running into the black screen + 100% fan issue when playing The Witcher 3 (the crash would always happen during dialog cutscenes). I checked out this thread and tried out a few "fixes" but nothing worked probably due to the hardware nature of the issue. Due to the date of purchase it seems I received one of the messed up units, so I sent a support ticket on Monday to see next steps but have yet to receive a response. Hopefully will get this resolved soon.

As I side note, yesterday I tried reducing the GPU clock by 100Mhz as some have suggested as a short-term solution while waiting for EVGA feedback and can confirm it has been working, at least for now. I have seen my card going as high as 2025Mhz with no overclock whatsoever, and I'm pretty sure the crash occurs when this spikes even higher, so there's something definitely amiss there.

EDIT: Witcher 3 started crashing again, even after reducing the GPU clock by 100Mhz. So, yeah, reducing it just by 100Mhz isn't working. On the plus side, I got a response from EVGA support and they confirmed my symptoms match the "Black Screen" issue addressed here, so they'll initiate the RMA. Have yet to receive the actual RMA email though, will update once this goes through.

Let us know. I am also waiting for my replacement card. I tried all the "fixes" like you and nothing worked for me.

Are all the RMA cards coming in as refurbs?
I mean, I have experienced this problem right out of the box.
If I am sent a refurb Id be kind of bummed, I did not pay refurb prices.

I got my RMA today, it was definitely a refurbished GTX 1080 FTW. I can see a couple of small scratches on the top of the card where the logo is. I noticed the card ran a little hotter than my first card. Hopeufully there are no issues with it. To early to tell.

My replacement card is also scratched somehow when I got it out the box and has worse overclock-ability. I don't really care though because it actually works. Scratch can be seen on the bottom part of this pic that I took when I inspected the card when it arrived.

Oh man.... you better get an RMA on that. It's going to effect your performance at least by 40%.

Just happened today while playing infinite warfare on a 1070 SC. Going to do the BIOS update if I can find it. If not then RMA this card is starting to be more trouble then its worth. Just got a 1440p monitor and it started this crap. Running my 2 1080p monitors as well. I miss my 1060 :(.

Posible solution for you. (cant paste the ling, but try to find this on forumn evga -  "EVGA GeForce GTX 1080/1070/1060 BIOS Update"

Q. Do I need to reapply this update every time I update a driver or reinstall the O.S.?
A. This update is attached to the card, no matter where it goes. If you update the driver, the EVGA BIOS update is still applied.

Q. How can I tell what version I firmware I currently have?
A. There are multiple ways to do this, one way is to right click on desktop and go to NVIDIA control panel. Click on Help, then System Information. Scroll to the bottom of the Details window and it will show your "Video BIOS version".

Q. I just bought my card, will it have this updated firmware?
A. Chances are yes, as new firmware is released, new products shipping from EVGA will also have this firmware version applied.

Q. How do I apply the BIOS to both cards on an SLI system?
A. On SLI systems the BIOS is automatically applied to both cards.

Q. I have an AMD chipset motherboard, and the flash is not completing. What do I do?
A. Please contact , this will require a special update.

Q. The Flash is not completing.
A. Try running the executable as adminstrator (right click run as admin) if still not working, please contact us at
