The flaw with these cards is the same flaw they had with the 980FTW. the competition design their boards differently than EVGA's, and the way EVGA has their PCB made, since they're running at the same speeds, apparently there is something wrong. We can agree to disagree, but i think you missed the part that this is the same fluke that EVGA had with the 980FTW. The exact same issue.

Yeah I get that too, and it's obviously kind of inexcusable. It may be possible they literally don't know what is wrong in their design lol, so they just keep trying different components from different sources.

Wasn't there a post from ChrisB earlier in this thread where he said they'd identified the replicated/identified the issue and had fixed it?

*EDIT*
It was JacobF in post #226: http://forums.evga.com/FindPost/2541819

That might explain why using a custom fan profile seems to prevent (or reduce since I am at four days and counting...?) the black screen issue on my PC since the air would be cooling not just the GPU but also the other components. The default profile has the fans only spin when the GPU hits 65 C so until then the VRMs and VRAM are not getting any cooling additional cooling, only whatever airflow your own case may have.

In my case, I got the card is early August when it was warm in the UK. Initially, I was somewhat disappointed in the ACX 3.0 cooling as I was seeing temperatures as high as 80 C in some games and so opted to switch to a more aggressive custom fan profile using MSI Afterburner. I used for over a month until I switched back to the default fan (the one that only spins at 65 C+) about 3 or 4 weeks ago. The black screen issue started happening for me around two weeks ago. Make of that what you will but it seems to me that the problem may well be with PCB components getting too hot due to inadequate cooling, especially when the card's own fans are not spinning (because the GPU has not reached 65 C).

Then again I accept I might be completely wrong... lol

Temps have nothing to do with it. Was happening to my FTW Hybrid card. Amazing how that old 980FTW thread parallels this one, smh. No official response in that thread either about the actual cause. Just hand them your wallet and hope for the best. Still love EVGA products but I didn't see that thread until it was copied here, that's not cool and neither is this. Even Volkswagen admitted its major problem with diesels (once it got caught) and outlined the fixes for various models. And gave cash back on top of that. Extreme and different example but similar principle. Do we here even get a PowerLink for our troubles? Nope, that'll be $18 y'all.

I deeply regret buying the 1080 Hybrid. Since I got the card I wasn't able to play anything properly in fear of crashing again. And that was at least two months ago. On friday Battlefield 1 is being released and I can't play it at all.

Thankfully it's Civilization 6 week for me so I put my 980 Strix back into my computer while I'm getting rid of the 1080 FTW, I don't know why but all the flickers and weird jitters in Firefox disappeared as well when I switched back. And so far no crashes in Rise of the Tomb Raider, DOOM and some other games.... The damned fps is a lot lower than before though........

I unfortunately already sold both my 670 FTWs. I don't have any backup. :(

And yes, we are talking to each other on different platforms. :P

A temporary fix could be finding the strongest air pushing fan you have and aiming it at the side of the card right where the hot spot is according to the images. You can probably keep the case open and use some box and tape to hold the fan in place even, a bit of downclock to not cause as much heat and you can probably play BF1.

Yes, I will probably go into debug mode.

I have access to a thermal camera at work. Maybe I will bring my computer to work on the weekend and run some tests on the Hybrid.

LOL wait.. your post makes little sense to me the way it is worded - it sounds like you purchased the card but have never used it for gaming because you're scared it *might* crash?? That is crazy. If you purchased the card and you *did* get the black screen full fan speed issue, did you ask for an RMA to replace it, or just stopped playing games?  ..which is still crazy. OR, did you get a replacement via RMA, but have not gamed with the replacement card because ...you're scared it *might* crash? LOL sorry this just isn't making any sense, I hope I am just misunderstanding your post.
