What is the best way to quickly test this problem? Playing for hours doesnt seem like a very efficient way to test this.

test it. you should be fine. *cross your fingers*

i thought facory 25 cards were mostly faulty and serials above 4000 are good to go

I bought both of my cards in July, they are both from factory 25

#1192
#3382

The both can run at 2100mhz core and 5400 mem (micron) clock. I normally run them with K-boost which is about 2025mhz and stock memory frequencies.

They run an Asus PG348Q 34" Ultra-wide 1440p and I use Dynamic Super Resolution to run games at 4K. I am at work so I don't remember the exact width but it is something like 5800ish x 2160p. I have played Doom, Witcher 3, Arma 3, GTA V, Fractured Space, and World of Warships without any problems so I don't know how much the factory where these cards were made plays a role in this issue.

The only thing I can say for 100% certainty is, if I develop this issue or something else happens to these cards, EVGA will be there to help me get it corrected.

Run unigine heaven 4.0 for an hour at max settings.

With my Factory 25 card (#1909) the black screen issue did not happen for two months and coincided with the installation of the v373.06 driver last Friday. In that time, I'd been running with a relatively mild (compared with what others say they're using) overclock of +75 MHz on the core and +250 MHz on the VRAM. I've was not using any extra voltage and temperatures were 77 C or lower (generally 65-75 C in most games) even maxed out at 4K, etc. I also used the default fan profile (the one were the fans only spin when the card reaches 65 C). I use MSI Afterburner's OSD for all my games so I know what temps and so on I was getting at the time the games black screened (well, except for UWP titles such as Gears of War 4 and Forza Horizon 3 since it doesn't work with thiose). Some of these games even black screened during pre-rendered cutscenes when the card temp was under 50 C!!!

Not really sure what the defect is with these cards (overheating VRMs or VRAM?) but I have initiated the RMA anyway. Amazon, unfortunately, have no stock (the cards I saw on their site were from a third-party reseller) so I have no choice. I am disappointed that I've had to since this is my first faulty card but I'm even more disappointed that this issue has not been officially acknowledged by EVGA or reported on by PC sites. This thread clearly shows the issue is problematic and the fact that my own card took two months to exhibit the issue suggests to me anyway that there may be more reports in the future from people whose cards are running fine now but likely won't be at some point in the near future.

Incidentally, I requested the replacement card come in a new box and was told that they only ship them within 30 days of buying the original card. That seems silly to me since logically the best way to return the card in the condition it was bought would be to use the original packaging but I need that for when I eventually sell the card on when I buy my next upgrade. As it is I am going to have to try and find some kind of box and packaging to send this card back in as it's not like I have spare graphics card shaped boxes and packaging that hold the card snuggly just lying around!!!

In my experience, the issue is completely random. I can play several games for hours one day and not have the issue then it will happen in every game I play the next, sometimes a few minutes in and even during pre-rendered cutscenes (as happened in Gears of War 4 and Mafia 3). I have not found a guaranteed way to replicate the issue but, of course, not knowing exactly why the issue occurs in the first place makes it very difficult. Would be nice to have an idea of what the issue is. I don't buy the theory that revealing the nature of the flaw would mean people attempting to fix it themselves... if they do and it damages the card or warranty then surely that is their fault? It makes it look like EVGA are just covering the issue up but maybe that's just me being cynical?

It's a EVGA GTX 1080 Hybrid. Serial number of the first card ends with 0006 and the second card 0239.

How long does it take a RMA to get approved? Submitted mine with the support request # a couple days ago but still pending approval. I'm impatient as I need to play BF1 without my PC crashing after 5 minutes lmao

They state on their website 1-2 days (presumably business/week days). I submitted by request for an advanced RMA yesterday evening but have not heard anything back yet as I still need to pay the security depost (however much that is) before they can even ship the replacement. That's why I tried to get a replacement direct from Amazon who I bought the card from in August. Although, I can still play games and I may lucky enough to not get the black screen, the constant threat of a black screen at any time does rather spoil my enjoyment of them so obviously I want to get the replacement as quickly as I can.

*EDIT*
Speak of the devil... as I was typing this I received an email from EVGA regarding the Advanced RMA... off to deal with it now.

Well, I've paid the "security deposit", a staggering €769.99 (£722, which is £122 more than I paid for the card from Amazon!). I was expecting it to be £100 at most.

Really not happy with having that amount stuck on my credit card while I await the replacement and eventual refund. It's not my fault that I bought a card with a design flaw and, IMO, EVGA should be replacing these using the Advanced RMA and without asking for its customers to pay a deposit upfront. I will certainly be more wary about buying graphics cards from EVGA in future.

That EVGA won't even ship in its own box is insulting enough, especially as they expect the card to arrive undamaged to get my money back. I might end up having to use the original box anyway which annoys me as I won't have a box for when I sell the card on.

And the email is not clear but am I expected to pay for the return postage costs as well to send my card back to EVGA or is it being picked up when the new one is delivered?
