for me at least its not software unless its the display driver, because i did a clean install of windows, and only installed nvidia drivers and started Guild Wars 2, didn't take long until the black screen.

Having the same issue as you guys. Can play DooM, Life is Strange, BF1 Beta with zero issues as far as I have played. But Rocket League uses only about 60% gpu usage and it crashes without fail after about 10-20 minutes. Monitor loses signal and gpu fans go to full blast, only way to recover the PC is to hard reset by holding the power button for 4 seconds.

Like others, i have tried different power supplies and all combinations of drivers, programs Uninstalled, etc.

So i got an advance RMA done, new card came fresh in it's box. And Dun Dun Dun, Dun dun....Dun, this brand new card has the same exact issue. They offered to do another RMA but they would open it up and abuse it first to see if it crashes for them. Not exactly the most enticing offer...im looking at possibly returning it and going with an Asus Strix 1080 instead since the 1080 FTW is clearly a card with some sort of inherent design flaw, and there is no other 1080 that they can swap us to without going to a different brand altogether.

Wow that sucks. So it's possibly when the game doesn't use much of the GPU and frame rate is high it may be caused? Very strange.

Do any of your games crash at all? Are you running stock clocks or overclock ?

100% stock, no overclock at all. My first 1080 had some artifacting in a games but it strangely went away. No issues with regular game crashes, and event viewer is spotless. I watched every imaginable metric using gpu-z sensor logging. We know it is the card itself since atleast one other person had their second card have the same issue, but the third finally fixed it for him.

I wanted the 1080 FTW so badly, it was the only version even in my mind going into this build. I have used only EVGA cards since switching to Nvidia 10 years ago, and while I know any card can have issues, any company can have a manufacturing problem, this issue is nothing like what I've seen before, and without any official word from EVGA on what specifically is happening here, any 1080 FTW being in my system would just feel like a ticking time bomb. I would happily trade up to the classified card since its a whole different PCB but that is not an option they allow, so my only option they gave me is to take my business to their competitors from now on.

Yes, im very frustrated but not trying to be Overly dramatic even though it may read that way, im just extremely dissapointed here. This rig as a birthday build, all i have had is 3 weeks of constant Headaches(literally) and stress from this, I'm too sick to work for 4 years so my only joy is gaming, and that's not possible on this card.

Jeez, yeah I just want an answer to understand what is going on with these cards so I know how to proceed. :|

Got my gtx 1080 ftw 10 days ago. I had no problems so far. No overclocking or anything. I was playing on an xb271hu the predator 1440p gsync 144hz screen. I was playing wow legion for 3 hours until the screen went black and fans on max speed. I shutes the pc down from the button. I restarted it and tried witcher 3. I played for 1 hour and the problem didnt happen again. I dont know what it is but maybe its something with the drivers?? I bought this card from overclockers uk. Btw i am fully happy with the performance but that crash worried me. I hope evga will find a fix i dont want to RMA

Received my RMA today and am actively testing it as I write this. I set my fan curve to start at 60% at 35C and stepping up from there. The fan curve is the only thing I changed in Precision Xoc.

Thus far card temps have not gone over 48C, which is 12C cooler than the previous card with the exact same fan curve. I have also noticed that the gpu clock has not exceeded the factory OC as my previous card did jumping to 2025mhz.

Will continue to run benchmarks and update as I get any more info. Thus far it has lasted longer than the other card ever did outside of debug mode.
