Update:
Got my new Supernova G2 850w installed, unfortunately there is still coil whine present and it's at the same audio level it was before with my previous PSU.
Never had and problems with my previous graphics cards (Asus & MSI) this being my first time with Evga. Seem to be all down to a luck of the draw
Evga said they would be happy to start the RMA process if the PSU didn't help. I'll update once again as soon as I get a replacement...fingers crossed!

Hi Jonox i think personally it is a card issue with all manufacturers  ..and not just EVGA.s.

I also tested A Inno Ichill Air boss x3 GTX 1070 and had a little coil whine. In fact it was a bit more audible than the FTW 1070.
I tested a Palit GTX 1080 and had none?? yet other people have had it on their Palit card? it is imo a lottery as to whether you get whine or not mate.

I thought as much, thanks for the info Adger...Hopefully my next one is a little better because I want to stick with Evga, given the fantastic support I have revived from them over the past week.

I have a 1080 FTW in a Phantek Evolv (Tempered Glass Edition) and I have the case on top of my desk very close to me and I haven't noticed any coil whine.

Tthis is a new build and I haven't read much on this case acoustics, but overall it been pretty quite ... even with a custom fan curve for the GPU (this cards fan were barely spinning before I set a custom fan curve; temps 65-75).

Update: I've switched from the Corsair PSU CX 750 back to SeaSonic XP2 860W Platinum, and the coil whine is absolutely gone. 0 coil whine even at 165 fps. So the issue was the PSU in my case for sure.

Its very strange for sure mate,it looks like a combination of Psu,s Gpu,s and everything else  im glad you have no coil whine nice one.
Like i said in a previous post i have very little with this FTW 1070 i had more whine on a Different 1070 and zero whine on a 1080.
Dunno about a silicon lottery..more like a coil whine lottery

Would I buy it again, Im not sure, I mean, the coil whine to me is really annoying especially since its louder and more noticeable than the fans by a good margin and eliminates the whole quiet selling point of the card, but I dont have spare power supplies or graphics cards to test so I cant be sure whether or not its the fault of the card or psu. That being said, I bought an EVGA 550watt g2... Which is rated highly on every review site Ive visited and received a 10/10 on Johnny guru. To me itd just be weird for their power supply to have issues with their graphics cards, but who knows. So I probably would have just gone for a card more known for silence in regard to coil whine.

Apart from the coil whine, the card seems pretty decent. I have a small niggle with the lights being diffused somewhat poorly hurting the generally pleasant aesthetic appeal of the card, buts its not that big a deal on my card (though I know it varies) and it still looks better than a lot of other cards.

EhCanadian..Do you have the option of a 14 day RMA where you live mate?
If the whine was considerably louder than my fans i would have sent mine back,i think most manufacturers cards have the possibility of coil whine.
If your out of the 14 day period can you send it to EVGA to look at?
I dont know how the consumer law works where you live pal..maybe contact EVGA?
All the best

Well it's like Adger and other said, seems to be a combination of gpu and psu. Some PSU's might help some cards, others might just have coil whine no matter what the case.
I haven't had any problems with diffused LED...if your using the Evga precisionX software, you could increase the lightness of the colour led your using which might help.

Should be a week or so now till my replacement comes.

I did talk to them. They suggested running a benchmark for a few hours then rmaing so I did, then got a new card and it sounded the same =/ So, Im guessing given Ive seen some people report no coil whine, that the evga powersupply has problems with the evga card -__-. Too bad I cant return it and I dont want to have to buy another powersupply without knowing which one wont cause the whine so Il just live with it.
