J0NOX
Ok so I got a helpful reply back from the Evga team about the coil issue.
Basically saying "Coil whine is common throughout all electronic devices, the causes of it can be affected by many different variables. It is not something that determines whether or not a product is going to be faulty. It is just an indication there is a current going through your component. One possible solution is to leave a benchmarking program like Heaven Benchmark 4.0 on overnight. This has helped some people but it may not work for you."
As suggested i tried a burn-in-test to see if it would get rid of the noise. I left the benchmark on for only 30min (was running around 150-300fps) and then I decided to cap it to 60 and leave it on...soon as I went to 60fps vsync the coil was hardly noticeable. As i mentioned before the coil was happening at 60fps but it seems maybe the burn in technique might have helped out in my case.
There is still a lot of noticeable buzzing @ 80-100fps, my last card was a Asus 970oc and that didn't make any noise when fps was high during any benchmarking software I used (Valley Benchmark + Heaven), I'm still going to see if another PSU will improve things.
Hi, thanks for the reply, yea I have the EVGA supernova G2 850w PSU, got it 8 months ago brand new from Amazon. Had coil whine also with an MSI r9 390 card and that PSU but it wasn't as bad (only with vsync off it got bad). It may be best to try another PSU but perhaps I just have a slightly faulty one- I'm not sure.
I have heard about leaving a benchmark on overnight, I've never actully ran anything on my system like that before, I only have the stock intel cooler on my cpu and it's an i7-4790k that get quite hot anyway so would be worried it might overheat and crash. I'll try look more into it tho, thanks for the advice.
I Know in my last post I said that my other OCZ ModXstream PSU didn't have enough power cables for the 1070 / 1080 FTW but it turns out after reading another thread on here it is possible to use it with those graphics cards using the supplied adaptor by evga.
I can't seem to be able to post links on here unfortunately- title is called: "PCIE Power Connections Question". So this means I will be able to test the 1070 ftw and 1080 ftw with both my PSU's now and see which combo has the most coil whine/ buzz.
