I've never had any coil whine on any of my cards, or PSU's. I've had several.

Ok so I got a helpful reply back from the Evga team about the coil issue.

Basically saying "Coil whine is common throughout all electronic devices, the causes of it can be affected by many different variables. It is not something that determines whether or not a product is going to be faulty. It is just an indication there is a current going through your component. One possible solution is to leave a benchmarking program like Heaven Benchmark 4.0 on overnight. This has helped some people but it may not work for you."

As suggested i tried a burn-in-test to see if it would get rid of the noise. I left the benchmark on for only 30min (was running around 150-300fps) and then I decided to cap it to 60 and leave it on...soon as I went to 60fps vsync the coil was hardly noticeable. As i mentioned before the coil was happening at 60fps but it seems maybe the burn in technique might have helped out in my case.

There is still a lot of noticeable buzzing @ 80-100fps, my last card was a Asus 970oc and that didn't make any noise when fps was high during any benchmarking software I used (Valley Benchmark + Heaven), I'm still going to see if another PSU will improve things.

Hi, thanks for the reply, yea I have the EVGA supernova G2 850w PSU, got it 8 months ago brand new from Amazon. Had coil whine also with an MSI r9 390 card and that PSU but it wasn't as bad (only with vsync off it got bad). It may be best to try another PSU but perhaps I just have a slightly faulty one- I'm not sure.

I have heard about leaving a benchmark on overnight, I've never actully ran anything on my system like that before, I only have the stock intel cooler on my cpu and it's an i7-4790k that get quite hot anyway so would be worried it might overheat and crash. I'll try look more into it tho, thanks for the advice.

I Know in my last post I said that my other OCZ ModXstream PSU didn't have enough power cables for the 1070 / 1080 FTW but it turns out after reading another thread on here it is possible to use it with those graphics cards using the supplied adaptor by evga.
I can't seem to be able to post links on here unfortunately- title is called: "PCIE Power Connections Question". So this means I will be able to test the 1070 ftw and 1080 ftw with both my PSU's now and see which combo has the most coil whine/ buzz.

My 1070 sc has coil whine, only with vsync off though, with vsync on it seems to not whine much at all. It's more like a buzzing noise not really a high pitched whine type noise. Have a EVGA G2 750w psu that I literally just got not long ago. Seems it's really 50/50 like others have said. Have tried burning it in with valley benchmark for about 7 or 8 hours, didn't really make a difference. I'm probably just going to keep it though, there is no advanced rma option in Canada, only an option to pay full price for another and then get your money back...don't have that cash :S. Good luck.

Hi DeathSOA, Yea my 1070 FTW with Vsync on 60fps is more like a buzzing/ electric razor sound (sound gets louder when I equip a sword in Elder scrolls Oblivion or use a skill in Battleborn games or just move around looking at different objects in the game - Same with Witcher 3)

With vsync off the sound is closer to a whine and the buzzing is there but louder.

Just got my 1080 SC, and so far, no coil whine. Very happy so far.

Do you get a electric buzzing sound (like an electric razor) coming from where the two pcie cables connect on the graphics card? I'd be happy with my 1070 FTW if I didn't get that sound. Mine wont't go away even with vsync on.

No noise whatsoever as far as I can tell. But then again my car has very thick doors and gold in the nose very well.

I just ordered my EVGA 1070 SC via Ebay (on 10% discount). Will test this upon arrival and update here if there's any whine.

Ok, would be great to hear back from you. See if you get the noise with or without vsync (at 60fps) enabled. Also if it makes a electric buzzing sound, like an electric razor near where the pcie connections go on the graphics card.

I'm trying to find out if some of these noises is normal for the 10 series Nvidia cards.

Thanks

So after a few more days - the coil whine is pretty bad, and the fact that i have open headphones or speakers (no closed back) makes it worse.  With the 14day Return/RMA would i have to ship the card back to EVGA in Canada?

How long is downtime normally for this 14 day window?

Ill try and installing it on a different machine to see how it behaves.

Greetings
My last evga card was gforce 8600 I believe. The card I upgraded from was an MSI GTX 570 twin frozr iii. So now I have a glorious evga gtx 1070 FTW with...coil whine. It only comes up during benchmarks and maybe some gaming. Most of it is dulled by my ATX case.
I contacted support and they say maybe it's your PSU, Motherboard, try it on a different PC. Ok...should I have a whole spare build for testing? lol
My PSU is a brand new EVGA 650w Supernova P2 (platinum!), I bought an adapter for my older 600w Seasonic PSU just to test it on another PSU and the card still made buzzing noise.
I don't have motherboard for further testing.

I just checked my 1080, yes it seems there is an electric razor razor like buzzing coming from where the pci-e connection go, even when idle. This is were the buzzing gets louder when in a game.

Edit:
Still using my old PSU, getting new one this Friday (12th) let you know this Saturday if the buzzing/coil changes.
