Hello and welcome!

I had some very bad coil whine on my card, luckely the customer service helped me and I was able to send my EVGA FTW 1070 back to my store in holland. Now contemplating on what to buy for my new card, not sure if I will go with another EVGA because on some of the Dutch videocard forums there is also a very vocal majority with this card having coil whine issues. The card itself is beautiful, you can feel it has high quality materials and the rgb is perfect. If it wasnt for the coil whine problems I keep reading about I would 100% stick with this card.

On this forum I got the reply that my power supply was poor, this myth was busted when I tested it on two other machines now with differend psu's. On other help forums they say my power supply itself is perfectly fine aswell. also a 650 watt psu you have isnt realy a low power psu it should be more than enough for these cards since they arent that power hungry. I guess its a lotery with videocards but I have a vague believe that this card (sadly) has it more than other brands at the moment.

Thanks for your input pr00f, it does seem that there's a fair few posts on different forums, where people are having issues on the EVGA cards. There's also a lot of people who are having coil whine issues on the Msi cards aswell though.

I don't know if it's the luck of the draw with GPUS or not but in my opinion if I'm paying upwards of £430 for a GPU I expect it to be nigh on perfect.
Cheers

I think I'm going to take a chance on the FTW 1070.
I have 14 days to RMA with my seller anyway. And seen what a friendly bunch your are on here, and hearing and reading stories about EVGA,s excellent support I'm going to give this card a chance.
Il hopefully be picking one up in the next couple of days.
Thanks all

But you have to convince the tech support guy or the guy testing your gpu for rma. He may not count coil whine as defect in gpu. Prior discussion with retailers or sale rep is the best way to solve any problems or issues you might face.

Hi Harry ..under the 14 day RMA with OCUK I could send it back as unwanted.
I wouldn't even have to mention coil whine.
Thanks mate

Hi Adger, please post back on whether your new 1070 FTW has coil whine or not.   I'm also interested in buying a 1070 FTW, but I am waiting a couple/few more weeks until the price drops a little more.

I get terrible coil whine with my FTW at stock and overclocked :( Its a shame cuz its a decent overclocker ...hitting 2135mhz on default BIOS and maxed out power/temp limits...stable 2101mhz on Heaven loop.

Tonight ill try the 2nd bios with 130% limit and a move aggressive frequency/voltage curve in Afterburner 3beta..hopefully get 2150mhz stable

But the whine is pretty bad :( Not sure if i should RMA it

Thanks for the information q2klepto if your not happy with the whine then I'd certainly be looking to RMA it.
It certainly seems that there could be quite a few people who are having coil whine issues with this card.
It's a shame because of what I've read about EVGA and the people I've had information from on this forum, you all deserve a great card. It seems like a 50/50 gamble on wether or not I get a good card without whine.
Do I risk £430 on a gamble?? I'm not sure guys.

I've been keeping a close eye on this forum for just over a day now and..
I must say I'm very impressed with the EVGA reps that are on here giving quick and sound advice
Are they always this good?
Anyway I'm 100% going to purchase a FTW 1070 card within the next few days. Just because I've seen how good EVGA are. And fingers crossed I get a great card (haven't had much luck lately, just had to purchase a new MB)
I have 2 6+2 pin connectors on my PSU,I'm right in saying this is good enough to run this card?
Thanks all
