Hi all first of all I'd like to say hello to everybody .
Now I'd like to say that I'm very very tempted to get a ftw 1070 possibly within the next 2-3 days.
I've heard lots of brilliant things about EVGA,s after sales support and their fantastic customer care.

But..I'm also hearing a few stories regarding "coil whine" with some of the FTW and SC cards.
Il hopefully be purchasing my card from overclockers uk,as I only live 10 minutes away from them.
I know they offer a 14 day return (refund) but I hope I don't have to go down this route.
So I'm basically asking if many of you have had problems regarding whine on the 1070 FTW cards in particular.
Also if you have purchased a 1070 FTW are you more than happy with your purchase?
If you had your choice over again would you still go for the EVGA FTW 1070?
I'm sorry that my 1st post is a bit of a negative one,but I really want to get the best advice regarding my purchase.

Thank you to anyone with any advice,it'd be most appreciated .
Very best regards.

Hey!

I've got a 1070 SC and I will occasionally hear coil whine when it's under stress (for example, FIFA 16 opening intro with unlimited FPS). However, it's truly not that loud (I personally would never complain about it).

If you are sensitive to noise and need everything to be at completely quiet then you'll have some issues when the card is under stress.
If you're like me and have headphones / music / sound playing almost constantly, it won't bother you.

I highly recommend these cards; they're really great! The coil whine should definitely not be a reason to not buy the card.

Hi Bosanac13.
Thanks for your reply,no I'm not really that sensitive to noise, if I heard it "whining" over my case fans then I'd be a bit unhappy but apart from that any noise below that level would be fine.
Thanks again

Hello Adger and welcome to the Forums!

Any high powered electronics give off coil whine but it is typically outside of the audible range. Sometimes the whine is able to be heard and it can be quite annoying. This is regardless of brand or model (although with cards that operate at a higher frequency require more power which can increase the odds of coil whine). It also depends on the other components involved such as the power supply. If you find your card does have coil whine, I recommend the following:

1. Test the product another system or test the current system with another power supply unit. This can be the cause of the sound which can manifest itself through the graphics card or power supply.

2. If you are using a UPS (battery backup) or power strip try plugging directly into the wall outlet to see if this may resolve the issue.

You should be able to know if your card will experience this within the 14 day window of testing. Run some benchmarks, play some games. Test thoroughly to make sure you are satisfied. If you miss the return window just contact us so we can look into options to assist you further.

I have two 1070 FTW and no coil whine.  I'm very happy with them.

Cheers for the reply Joseph. I now know why EVGA,s support is highly recommended,I'd have a problem testing it with another psu.
But like you say I've got 14 days to try. Thanks again pal

No coil whine with a standard 1070 ACX 3.0 overclocked or not. I had some before with a GTX 970. As said before it's just a matter of luck with the card and it's not linked with the brand or the model. Maybe cards more powered like the FTW are more exposed? As Pascal seems to overclock pretty easily I would go with a standard card like mine and overclock it yourself.
