It seems that a lot of us are in agreement that the default fan curve could use a bit of tweaking. EVGA, do you guys have any plans for another update?

I just wanted to say I 100% disagree that the new fan curve is too weak. I'm not hitting 80C in any games and the fan stays nice and quiet. If you think it should be more aggressive because you want your GPU to stay in the 60s, everyone shouldn't be subjected to louder fans for that. You can set your fan curve.

What temps do you guys get with the 1060 SC? It says max 60c but I'm getting higher.

I'm idling at ~34c at 20% fan and hitting ~67c on CSGO with around 60% fan. Define R5 case.

Room has AC and is like 74f

Hi, so trough EVGA's support, I was able to get the previous bios, but unfortunately, evertyime I attempt to use nvflash I get "ERROR: No NVIDIA display adapters found."

:/

EDIT: it turns out they seem to have sent me the update one, damn it.

Guys, the reason for this is simply because, 80C is NOT at all a harmful temperature for your card to run under load.

Companies like EVGA do stress testing that simulates 4-year conditions over a 144 hour period (see the Zotac factory tour video). These cards have to pass that test to get sold with any BIOS changes.

GPUs have historically been running at mid-80C to low-90C previously. It's only these past 2 gens the temps have come down remarkably.

Really, I wouldn't worry with the 80C temps, since the default built-in limit for Pascal is now at 83C rather than 80C for Maxwell, which signifies that Nvidia is confident with how long the card can potentially last, and the actual max thermal limit is over 90C for these cards.

I have a 1060 with stock BIOS on it. I would be glad to upload it but I am having issues backing it up. Using the latest NVFLASH on Windows 10A, it gives me an error that it can not find any compatible devices.

Us AMD users are still waiting for a fix.  Is one coming?  If no one's ever going to do anything about this at least have the decency to let us know so we can try to return our cards!

Exactly!!!  Even XOC doesn't work 100% thanks to this...

Just applied the firmware update to my 1060 SC and its now lovely and silent again! (It replaced a silent Palit 750Ti Kalmx)

Will it happily spin up if it has to work hard, or do I need to download some software to apply a relevant profile?

The fan speed up a little if you are pushing the gpu, but the curve is pretty "weak". You can pretty much try the default bios curve and see if it works for you. But some of the guys here are having not so comfortable temps under load... 75-80c. If you can live with those temps just leave it stock, but if you want a cooler GPU, just install XOC o MSI Afterburner, and create a custom fan curve.
