My second 1060 SC came back (first one was DOA) with the original bios. Updated to the 0db one for the full manual control of the fan.
 
Made a custom curve with Precision XOC and with Afterburner and works pretty great except of a small kink.
This is the curve:

The problem is that as soon as the temp hits 41 C , the fan ramps up to 100% for a second or two and then goes back to the value indicated from the curve.
 
This happens every time the fan stops completely. Upon the next time the card is under any significant load it spins up again to 100% just for a second or two.
It is pretty jarring to hear the fan come up so loudly.
 
Tried a second curve, this time keeping the fan to 25% up to 45 C, this issue happens then as well but now it only happens upon the first restart of the PC, during the automatic load of Precision/AB, because during POST the fan is as expected turned off.
After that, the fan spins up and down as expected.
 
It also happens if I leave the default curve in place and switch it to manual mode in any value, again spins up to 100% and then goes to the value selected.
 
Is this an issue with using a custom curve in general? Any tips on how to fix this ?
 
Maybe I should just open a ticket to get the original bios and be done with all of this tinkering :)

I got the EVGA GTX 1060 SC with new bios yesterday. After reading about the fan and temps I am reluctant to use this card. Can jjwerrett or EVGATech_JaesonW send me the old bios zip file. I have used nvflash before and I understand the risks of flashing the bios. I can not pm you guys as I am a new member.

I'm using the EVGA 1060SC and have flashed it with the BIOS on this page to get 0% fan when its not working hard.
This is because I previously had a silent 750Ti Kalmx, and I want the silence.
 
I'm new to fan profiles and graphoc card management, but I thought the new BIOS worked well? For example, I get 0 fan until it hits about 70degrees, then it kicks in (which is fine because thats usually gaming and I dont mind the noise then.) Then I quit back to windows and the tempature rapidly drops back to the mid 50s or so and the fan turns off.
I like that behaivour, but is there more I should consider?

I don't understand what is the problem that old bios is not being made available. The risk for people flashing the wrong bios is there even with the new bios as well. Can someone please explain if there is another reason?
 I don't mind little noise as continuous running of fan is better to keep the card cool. I know I can set a custom profile but it would be better if I don't have to run the extra software.

They pretty much refuse to give us the BIOS. Tried everything and they pretty much say it doesn't exist (which, obviously, is wrong).

Well I actually rushed, because of legitreviews listed the bios ids as: Old BIOS ID: 86.03.0E.00.00 and New BIOS ID: 86.03.0E.00.01 on page 11 and the bios listed on the back of my card is 86.06.0E.00.60. So I assumed that I have new bios when it is old bios.
 
 
I tried the old bios then I extracted the old bios using nvflash and tried the new bios. I have a dell Studio XPS 435MT and the cooling is not good enough. With the new bios, GPU was idling at 48 degrees with 0 fan speed and with the old bios it was idling at 33 degrees with 47% fan speed. Even at 47% fan and side panel off, it is not audible at all. So for my system the old bios wins. If anyone asks, I used the nvflash to reflash the saved rom of old bios. 

I don't know what the forum rules are, otherwise I could have uploaded the old bios rom here or post the link.
