Who suggested swapping CPU's anyway? Good job to whoever suggested it.

I'll let the OP answer this one.

I believe that would be technical wizard Sajin...

Any reason you're not using the aftermarket cpu cooler?

Good question...
I may have to install that one - but it weighs __815 grams__!

Oh, I just had a chat with Intel Customer Service.

They do not sell just the plastic lockdown clips (or whatever you call them)
You have to replace the entire cooler to get them.
Seems pretty silly to have to buy a $50 cooler to get a ten cent clip!

I guess my next step is to research what to replace this system with.
While I was at NCIX today, this is what the salesman suggested I look at:

110592 - Intel Core i5 6500 CPU LGA1151 - $264.99  - http://www.ncix.com/detail/intel-core-i5-6500-processor-6m-5e-110592.htm
126208 - MSI Z170A Motherboard - $174.99  - http://www.ncix.com/detail/msi-z170a-sli-plus-atx-66-126208.htm
111429 - G-Skill Ripjaws V Series F4-2400C15D-16GVR DDR4 - 16 GBs - $89.99  - http://www.ncix.com/detail/g-skill-ripjaws-v-series-f4-2400c15d-16gvr-10-111429.htm

Any thoughts?

Good suggestions. What are you going to use the system for?

My main use is web surfing, but I also do a lot of photography and video work. Nothing fancy, mainly hobby. Lots of fishing videos
I have been using Adobe Premiere Elements, but my copy is hiding in a box somewhere since the last move.
Also use Photoshop a lot.

Not good. Only things left to try would be to reset the bios to default settings. Starting to look like the motherboard is the issue after all.
