If I can't pick up a Nvidia card by the weekend, then AMD gets my business. Nvidia screwed up big time.

Lot's of people say that.  You should take the time to see how many people regret that exact decision.. It's actually impressive how many threads you can find from people that came back within a few weeks.

Honestly, if the performance is comparable, then it's a no brainer for me, AMD. Nvidia is giving me plenty of time to make sure it's the right decision, taking their sweet time on purpose to sell their crap Founders Edition $100 markup (and I'm sure participating in that scalping too).

Also, I had ATI back in the day. Was no better or worse than my 7300 GT from Nvidia.

I don't know exactly the timeframes between nvidia and partners but I guess they ought to also have had time before the 27th to prepare and test custom boards as well as prepare stock and supplies for the launch no?

I don't know any specifics but I got the impression that AIBs got very little time with the reference design before the announcement. People at the time were talking Computex as potentially the earliest the public would even get to see a custom PCB design. Assume at least 2 weeks after that for them to get their first batches of cards manufactured and I am actually pretty impressed that were up for pre-order as soon as they were. I honestly expected we would only see alternate coolers from AIBs for the first month. So many custom layouts shows just how together their engineering teams have gotten.
Given how easy it is to get boards printed I can only imagine the shortages are due to limited supply of one of the new parts (the actual GPUs from TSMC's fab line or the G5X from Micron). I suspect TSMC just can't handle the demand yet.

Purely speculation (and I do feel for my brothers in other regions) but EVGA's headquarters is in CA, USA so I suspect all the initial shipments went there. After they had a handle on return rates and fixed any manufacturing hiccups (plastic under screws, etc) then they started portioning of the shipments to other regions.

Personally I think one of the biggest mistakes in this launch was that the buy limit should have been 1 on all the sites. SLI isn't even fully working yet you can limp along on 1 card for a month.

Also my earlier comment about feeling like I deserved something for the wait was not a monetary plea, I was trying to lead in to my comments about intangible rewards of getting a product "later" in its life-cycle.

AMD showing nvidia how it's done when launching a new GPU. All retailers are well stocked already (those are RX480s btw)

Although a quick look-see at https://www.nowinstock.net/computers/videocards/amd/rx480/
only shows ebay with cards in stock       a few estores taking pre-orders, and the usual suspects out of stock.

Vulgar language will not be tolerated.  [...]
Using asterisks to hide your vulgar language will cause your post to either be edited or removed.

Does anyone else chuckle when they read this disclaimer? Considering 80% of the traffic in this thread is dedicated to a video card with a questionable initialism in its product name.

Please explain what is questionable about EVGA, GeForce, GTX, 1080/1070, Stock, or Thread.  I am curious what you are seeing that no one else is seeing?  You may want to read the thread title again.

Also, as the user above me stated.. FTW isn't questionable as it stands for For the Win.  For it to be questionable, you would need to rearrange the letters, which would cause your post to be removed.

Popular culture in the late 90s and early 2000s used FTW to mean something else. Obviously I am not going to spell it out.

Being out of stock the day after launch is forgivable. Being out of stock for an entire month is not. This was all intentional to prevent people from buying the cheapest Nvidia cards. It's disgusting.

Scarlet-TechWhen you claim, "But asus, gigabyte.... have shipping around the world.." yeah, they also have AMD at their side as well and are much larger companies with my lower customer service standards. Personally, ASUS returned broken motherboards to me multiple times, and I had to pay shipping Each and every time, and they refused to help.

I bought a brand new Asus Z97 motherboard and a separate ThunderboltEX II card a couple years back (roughly).  They were advertised to work together on the website, in the product manual, etc.  When I got everything installed, there was a cable missing that connects the card to the motherboard.  Turns out the cable was missing from every single ThunderboltEX II card that they had sold to that point.  They had changed the socket on from the Z87 board and not accounted for that.

No problem right, just call up Asus support and they'll send me one.  Nope, they flat out refused and despite many attempts and escalations by myself and others we were told that it simply wasn't possible.  No problem, simply call up their accessory sales and buy one then, right?  Nope, despite many attempts by myself and others .. it was impossible to buy this part as they didn't offer it.  The cable existed, as the "Deluxe" version of the MB came with the card and proper cable packaged together.  We even had the part number to give to them on the phone..  They had simply screwed up the contents of the standalone card and they were unwilling to admit or fix it.  The ONLY way I was able to resolve this was to involve the owners of one of the websites that reviews ASUS products and attends their trade shows.  They made one phone call and I had the right cable in hand, direct from ASUS in about 3 days.  I won't even go into my failed experience trying to RMA an ASUS motherboard.  That ultimately wound up being recycled.

That's why I buy from EVGA.  They may be smaller, with smaller distribution, etc..  but they don't let stuff like that happen.

Honestly, if the performance is comparable, then it's a no brainer for me, AMD. Nvidia is giving me plenty of time to make sure it's the right decision, taking their sweet time on purpose to sell their crap Founders Edition $100 markup (and I'm sure participating in that scalping too).

AMD isn't directly comparable to Nvidia, since AMD isn't doing anything innovative at all. The r9 480 is priced right where you can buy a 980 right now, and that is the only thing it competes against. Nvidia made a node and architecture change, and really changed. AMD just keeps sticking right where they were and changing the size of the node. They really need to make a big move and stop releasing interim stopgap.

Well, it's not.  Now what?  Going to crossfire so you can be sort of competitive in half your games?  I wish AMD was competitive just for the sake of healthy competition, but they aren't.  The day will hopefully come and it'll be good for the market.  That day isn't today though.

AMD is the underdog though, that is to be expected. Nvidia has a monopoly on the market, and a partnership with Intel. Personally, I'm not a fan of monopolies, we need more competition.
