Considering supply problems and the fact that you only need one bridge per SLI'd computer. Shouldn't there be a limit of 1 per household on these things to help spread the love more? I might be over thinking this but I don't see why there would be a limit of 2 on such an item.

So I just noticed something, when looking at gpu-z it shows this:

 
Notice how it says high-bandwidth on the SLI section. I do not have a HB sli bridge. What I have is one of the older style EVGA Pro 2-way sli bridges (http://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX47593)
 
I also noticed that even in the control panel it doesn't mention that a higher performance sli bridge could improve my experience. Any one know why it says that it is high-bandwidth?


So anyone have any idea why it is acting like I have the HB bridge when I don't? Jacob? Anyone?

It's most likely because the bridge is running at the same speed as the hb bridge. Tom Petersen @ nvidia said the older LED sli bridges are capable of running at the same speeds of the new hb bridge. 


Ahh, I did not hear about that. Well in that case no need for me to spend the extra to get the HB bridge. Thanks for the help.

No problem. Yep, no reason to get the new bridge unless you're doing 4k @ 120-144Hz, 4k surround or 5k.

there are 2 other reasons to get a HB bridge, the color LEDs and that they offer a 4-slot spacing. Granted, they aren't great reasons like improved performance, but I want my SLI bridge LED to match my GPU LEDs :) (not sure if the 4 slot really does anything of note as far as cooling goes over 2 slot spacing, but I got that one because my motherboard supports that spacing and it was in stock lol)
 
Also, quick question, would 5120x2880 (5k) from using DSR take advantage of the HB bridge? I assume it's rendered resolution that counts as far as data that needs to be shared between GPUs, not output resolution, but I'm not 100% sure on that.

Its not clear to me that same speed = same thruput. I would like to know if that is so, for a) 2-way old style led bridge, and b) old style 3 or 4 way led bridges.

Led bridges only connect the one SLI fingern so they have half the throughout of HB bridges. However, that extra isn't really needed until the 5k and above mark. It's been said before that the frame times in SLI will improve. Whether you notice is YMMV.

While I agree that using only one finger should mean that it has less bandwidth, why does gpu-z see it as high-bandwidth?

Because the older led bridges are running at the same 650MHz speed as the hb bridge when used with pascal video cards.
