This bridge can help frame pacing especially at higher resolutions + refresh rate and/or surround on GTX 10 series:

So, that chart with frametimes improving a couple percent is all these bridges have to show as far as performance improvement?

They should have got rid of the flashiness and included them for free with the cards. I'll wait until someone can show me why i actually need to spend more money on this.

Since not everyone does SLI, there's no compelling reason to include them for free. If you are going the SLI route, you buy HB bridges for micro stutter reduction due to the combined increased bandwidth. Especially if you do surround or 5k gaming. Otherwise, keep your existing bridge.

They could easily correct their marketing approach by clearly stating that the only people who need this are 5k or extreme surround users. I've seen them be very sneaky about who and what this is actually useful for, while seeming to be more than glad to sell it to everyone who is confused. Tom very much tried to appeal to 980ti SLI users at 4K resolutions that this would be neccessary for that purpose with 10 series, and the 980ti had been gimped into microstutter because the old bridges could not be used at all.

The fact that the only metric we have to show improved performance is an extreme case surround setup means a lot to me. They would have shown a straight 4K comparison if they wanted to be forthcoming with users.

I need the zero slots. this 1080 gpu is amazing so far I am beating out my bench marks done with dual gtx 970s sc with a single gtx 1080 fe.

Well, since the GTX970 was originally released in September 2014, I would hope that a brand new just released GTX1080 would perform a lot better ;-)

"the 1080 outperforms two 980's in SLI." I would hope if it outperforms the 980 sli it would outperform the 970's in SLI.
