Do I need an EVGA motherboard to get all benefits of this case ? as I have a brand new ASUS x99 motherboard.

You can use any motherboard.
Windows is nicely build and I recommend DG-86 or DG-87.
DG-86 is very nice.

Claymore_4I do not agree , a hard drive is Subjected to more risks, I have +100 blu ray disc dating from 2010 who lost no data
they are archived in separate pockets for a very good protect, i have 5 hard disk die from 2010-2016.

you make money from the optical drive with time.

optical drives only "MAKE" you money when you sell content you burn. also if you have over 100 BD's just sitting around, when was the last time you actually found a reasonable need to go to them for that old data? the only real use for BD's are for storing family videos and pics for archival purposes. everything else can be recreated or redownloaded or small enough to easily scatter across multiple drives, usb flash included, and online free storage. (google, dropbox, ect)

I just use a NAS in Raid 10 for back up of pics and videos and also have them on another HD just in case.

I only use bluray to rip my blurays and put them on my NAS for streaming so getting an external BR drive is cool with me.

Any chance EVGA cuts us a break on domestic US shipping?  I don't see the point of pre-ordering when I can probably still get it cheaper locally or with free shipping from Newegg/Amazon with Prime/Premier/Shoprunner.....

Putting together a rough estimate using FedEx and UPS (going off of weight and box dims on the pre-order page) - this seems to be in line with what "actual" shipping costs would be for a standard consumer.  Due to sheer volume Amazon and Newegg get much lower shipping costs negotiated and why they can offer what they do...  That said one would assume that EVGA would have some sort of volume discount with the carriers to get reduced price shipping and would in-turn pass this on to the customer.

Im sure the sheer number of preorders should allow for one of the shippers to give them a bulk rate.
Just send a truck, and ship the preorders all at once !

That is what $50 discount is for. THe retail price of DG87 after preorder promotion is $230. If you wait for this case show up at Newegg or other retailers, you will have to pay original price + tax + shipping and it would exceed $230. For now, I save $7 from retail price by doing preorder.
