XoticPC gets the laptop from EVGA with 2666 MHz RAM, removes it, saves it to sell to other people for extra price, and installs cheaper slower memory? That's crazy. If it isn't a typo, EVGA should be on the phone right now scolding them and threatening to terminate their agreement.

That's not fair at all. They choose GSkill RAM probably because performance and customers should get that.
Not to terminate agreement only to warn them.
Sometimes in very expensive laptops people could find cheapest SSD available and some low cost RAM only to match as advertised size and people can't check so easy as in desktop.
Good decision to install M.2 NVMe from Samsung as OS device.
With him customers will be in line with desktop performance few years not limited on SATA III.

I like how XoticPC has a $35 option and $89 option for (dead pixel warranty), when EVGA has a ZERO Dead Pixel Warranty on the laptop by default. Nothing like a retailer trying to get a customer to pay for something that is FREE from the mfg.

Zero Dead Pixel Warranty:

This Limited Warranty covers the Laptop Monitor during the warranty term.

  • EVGA has a Zero Dead Pixel Warranty which means that our monitor is warranted to be free from any Dead Pixels.
    • *Dead pixels are defined as pixels that are bright, stuck, dark or unresponsive or improperly responsive to the video input.
    • This warranty does not cover failures caused by improper cleaning or maintenance, accidents, misuse, modifications to the product, damage, or any other event or act outside of EVGA’s control.

And mobile gaming station is ready for new games.

That is good.  Thank you!  Seems like they removed the requirement to buy a warranty from them for many hundreds of dollars and have fixed the memory frequency issue.  Both are really good changes.  They are still trying to sell customers an additional dead pixel warranty on a product which already comes with a dead pixel warranty, which seems a bit strange, but maybe the warranties are different and they add some value.

Dear EVGA and friends,

This is,  ironically,  the ideal business laptop for people who need power,  but no ECC, &c.  Only question, pertaining only to linux kernel users,  such as myself:
from bugzilla "Basically it affects every system, which has a Realtek ALC255 sound card and the internal microphone not directly connected to it hardware wise. "

this is a known ALC driver issue,  so is the internal microphone wired to card?

Thank you for your response.

My SC17 order with XOTIC PC just hit the processed stage! I purchased there because they offered the option to replace the 1TB HD with a 2TB model, as well as Win 10 Pro. (Being able to remote into the machine is a requirement.)

This will be a desktop-replacement laptop used for development and occasional gaming. It's replacing a much older WUXGA laptop. Stepping down to FHD and losing screen real-estate was a hard thing to accept and so I was waiting for higher-resolution screens to finally appear in 17" laptops. (It's been quite a few years of waiting on that criteria!)

The top factors for the purchase were:
- Screen resolution to display a lot of text clearly.
- High-end processor and memory, good enough graphics that it'll play most games on an external monitor.
- Ideally without silly juvenile glowing logos all over it.

The SC17 was the first 4K 17" laptop to hit the market with 4K, the 6820HK processor, and not making an unjustifiable cost-saving tradeoff (competitors deployed graphics cards with only 3G memory ??). An extra $400-$500 for the GTX 980 MXM card didn't seem quite worth the price bump. Manufacturer reputation was a big factor. MSI and ASUS would both have been fine, but MSI isn't selling a 4K laptop with these spec options yet, and ASUS retracted their announced 4K offerings entirely. Early reviews of the SC17 build quality and EVGA's work on other hardware were enough for me to trust to buying a first laptop offering.

Thanks for making a laptop in the class I've been hoping to purchase for a couple years now. Can't wait to get it!

I Just wish it had Thunderbolt 3 through the USB 3.1 Type C and it would have been a contender for me. Hopefully the next version will have this feature that i feel is important to me to be able to use the laptop as future graphics cards are released the external dock option would be a great selling point. The option to have a simple dock at work while having the external graphics dock at home,  this flexibility with the port would then allow for the removal of the 2 mini display ports or drop to maybe just 1.
